I know the AC/vent draws the air from the vents by the cowl, but where does the hot air come from?

From the heater core which warms up from coolant passing through it.

Sorry, guess I could have phrased it better. The air that passes through the heater core and then gets heated and comes into the passenger/driver cabin. Where does that air come from?? The same AC vents on the cowl or from the engine compartment?

outside air that passes thru the heater core, definitely comes form the "cowl" area at base of windshield.

gas and oil fumes into the passenger compartment would not be too cool ...

I'm getting a burnt oil smell coming into the car. thre is a ton of oil coming from my wastegate solenoid :(

Salvage-
I just got off the phone with John Craig (what a damn nice guy) and figured out that it was either my rings, or the ventilation of the crankcase. The turbo was good. I changed the PCV and put a new check valve (the old one was a little sticky) and we'll see what happens. After that a leakdown test.
