Where can I get a T/V or Detent cable for my '87 GN. Freakin' nobody has these things!

I just got one from the dealer I work at. List is around $130. OUCH!!

I just got one for my 84 at Carquest. It was only 30 bucks or so, and it took care of the problem. Talk about a win-win situation.

i cant find one either- i work at a dealer i refuse to pay 130$ for it lol. ive been to every parts place around here no one can get it for me.

O'Reillys

Supposedly they have one for my car that I ordered. Haven't been by yet to look, but he swears it is the right length (I think its it 37/39 compared to 34") The price is about 25 bucks I'll try to go by and pick it up today and let you know.

The aftermarket one for my 87 was too short. And as far as I know all of the aftermarkets are too short. I had to get an oem one..

I just went through the samething. Everyone I found was a little too short. I had to bite the bullet and buy the OEM one for 145:mad:

$130.00 is cheap insurance for a $1500.00 trans!!!!!!!!!
Do not be cheap as it will bite you in the end!!!.

Part Picked Up

Well I finally made it to O'Reilly's and in my hand is what they claim to be the correct TV cable for 87 Regal Turbo. It's Pioneer Part # CA-1937 and it is labeled a Detent Cable (they will never learn):o Hopefully I have enough daylight left to pull the old one and compare. The actual plastic sleeve is 34 inches and the cable is 37+. I think it will work.

For those who have bought the OEM replacements that are not correct is the the part you bought. I want to save myself the time and trouble if it is no bueno.

Thanks

Jonathan

I know for a fact the the Poineer that I had was too short. Hopefully they corrected this on yours.. Otherwise its not gonna work.

Thanks,

That's what I was wondering. I am going to call Pioneer and find out what the deal is. You probably don't know the part # you tried do you?

Pioneer are Fools

Just talked to tech guy at Pioneer and he said they don't make TV cables at all. (Which is obviously false because I have one.) So I said lets not argue over semantics let's call it a Detent Cable.

Anyway got past that and he told me the major vendors, AutoZone, O'Reilly', etc. have it wrong. Pioneer doesn't list a part for our application. I told him that it would be nice if they could manufacture the same "Detent Cable" only a few inches longer because there is a demand for them among certain enthusiasts.

Sure no problem, just need a minimum order of 30,000. I don't think there were that many total TRs even produced. So unless another application (Monte Carlos, Camaros, etc) have 200-4Rs and need the same exact part, it looks like we will be taking it up the  from GM dealers.
