Looking into rebuild kits for my 400 which needs rebuilding after the converter went this year (don’t know if converter metal got into the fluid but I’m assuming)…. L Looking at Summit they have 2 kits which are both HD racing rebuilt kits. Both come with gaskets, bushings and red clutches. One kit is from TCI, summit part number TCI–259015 kit $289 and the other is from Hughes Performance, Summit part number HUP-HP2288K $230. The money difference is not the issue. The Hughes kit also includes Kolene steels (don’t know what the TCI kit comes with) and Kevlar lined bands.

I know typically the bands don’t need to be replaces but if I’ve got it apart, why not? Seems the Hughes kit gives you more but I’m just a little skeptical as typically you get what you pay for. I don’t know if the TCI kit comes with some type of performance steels but I know it does not come with bands.

Any ideas or suggestions? Not looking forward to rebuilding the transmission as I haven’t done a 400 in years.
