I'm confused as usual, which scan tool do I need for my 84. Its still all stock.
Thanks

This answer is tricky in your situation. The best scantool for our cars is clearly a powerlogger. New technology. Down side you have to convert to the 87 ECM. After conversion the puzzle gets bigger and more expensive if you are looking for real power. Good luck -Brad

I "think" I'm just going to leave it all stock at this point. It is just a driver right now and I am beginning the "restoring" process and looking into redoing all the interrior, paint etc... I just have some hesitation and a little rough idle that I would like to address. Is there a tool that I can use with the bone stock set up like I have now and will also work for me if I decide to upgrade to the 86/87 ecm, coil/module?

The only Scantool that I know of that will work on both the 84/84 and 86/87 ECM is an OTC 4000. Take-care- Brad

Agree with all the responses (Whatever that means ;) )

I belief Turbolink will work with the HA ECM.
Either the OTC2000 or 4000 will work and will do all you need for a driver at stock boost levels.

Matter of fact, I still have an OTC4000 that I use to help a LOT of people with all kinds of cars.

Is there a company that still sells the OTC2000 or 4000 or should I be looking for a used unit? Used would be fine with me if it is guarenteed to work...

You will need to find a used one as these are no longer made.
The Company that made them is "Owatonna Tool Company" located in Owatonna, MN.
I used to work about 1/8 mile from them.
