I know this will probably start a debate, but really I only want to know which ones will work.

I am not sure what the difference in the wires for a TTA are Vs. a GN. I see wires listed for a GN, but never TTA. I am concerned because I know the heads and headers are different.

I would prefer not to have and Accel set, but rather an MSD set. It would also be preferable that I dont have to make them, that I could purchase an already custom set.

So, what Brands/Price will work, and where can I pick them up. I am going to Jegs tomorrow (SBF and SBC heaven). Any help will be greatly appreciated

MSD BLACK take the time and make your own because you can change the boots on the #2 and #4 depending on what downpipe you have... 90° boots if you have the THDP on the TTA
BW

I have the Stock Down pipe, and that will always be there. The only exhaust mods I plan on doing are a Test Pipe and cat back.

If we only need 90* boot tned on some, why are do the factory wires have long Hue Straight Metal pieces on them?

they have long huge metal pieces on them because they clear the stock tiny downpipe-

put on the THDP and the straight boots will no longer clear the pipe, they will rest on there and melt-

if you have the stock DP, then go with the reds wires if you like-

you dont need a cat back system, the stock mid pipe flows enough for 127MPH...

the atr 2 1/2 downpipe doesnt cost alot at all, i would do that before doing the rest of the exhaust-
when i did that 2.5 downpipe on my TTA, the REGAL Hooker test pipe fit with only cutting off 1 inch of the test pipe to fit perfectly, car would run 120 thru the stock muffler!

cheaper alternative to going fast
BW

I want an exhaust system because:
1. The stock Pipe is starting to rust
2. I want it to be a little louder
3. I am not putting a down pipe on because money can be better spent elsewhere
4. Simply because 3" Intermediate pipes look cool
5. Becasue exhaust tips can look cool to.

Not everything is simply about driving the 1/4 mile. Especially on a daily driver. Everyone on here always forgets that.

I am not trying to run 120 whatever at all. If this car ever sees much track time it will be a miracle.

So, Nobody knows anything other than call Red Armstrong. Sorry, never used his products and would prefer to have a National Name set with a warranty and a place I can get them replcaed quickly. Qualioty/Price is not the only issue here.

So, I am off to JEgs. Funny how you can ask one question and get a lot more information on somethign you dont even care about.

All I wanted was information on spark plug wires and get a reason why I shold get a down pipe.

Seriously, does anyone one know the difference in the wires needed for a TTA Vs. The wires for a Grand National? I dont think they do. This is the 2nd time in two years I have asked this question and nobody has ever had an answer. This is very frustrating. Everyone on here knows so much about modifying thier cars, but does anyone just do general maintenance on s lightly modded car they are driving daily?

Well kyle no need to get frustrated you asked a question and ppl did answer they said if you have the stock dp then no need for 90* boots and if you had the thdp which IS money very well spent you WOULD need the 90* boots, and red armstrong is a very well known name thats why ppl mentoned them since your pontiac stole the motor that our buicks came out with ;) you should be able to use the same wires i think no difference jaysgn.com has already custom cut wires 8mm black american racing wires and i use them and are extremely happy with them.

From what I've read on here about wires, a lotta guys swear by the factory GM wires. They are(?) still available from GM and carry a lifetime warranty.
There ya go...just what you wanted. :)

I'm never gonna finish this car!:(

I use the Magnecores on both my cars...some don't like them and say the boots pull off but I've never had any problems with them plus I believe they have a lifetime warranty...can get them form several vendors...

You mean the factory GN wires are still available. Not the TTAs right. Though, I would Imagine that the TTAs would probably pull the same number if there are no real differences.

Anyways, I really just wanted to know what the difference having different heads (the 3.0s) would cause in the wires. I am assuming there are differences in the headers to, but I have nobody locally with a GN that I can compare with.

I ended up going to Jegs and found a guy pretty knowledgeable about 3rd gens. HE called MSD to ask them, and ofcourse they had no clue what a TTA was. So, he went in the back and pulled out a set of GN wires. I think they will work, so I go them. 8.5mm Super Conductors. Will be putting them on tomorrow. I will let everyone know how it turns out.

Oh, and in now way was I trying to discredit Red Armstrong. I know his products are great, and he is devoted to the Turbo Buick Community and if/when I purchase another car and the TTA gets Hot Rodded a little more, I will probably be getting to know him a little better.

well excuse the heck outta me for trying to explain to you which plug wires you should run

the factory mid pipe is still avail from GM, but since you want that "cool" 3 inch midpipe with your "cool" tips more power to you buddy.

i didnt like your attitude toward my prior posts on this thread, i was just trying to help you out!!!

"All I wanted was information on spark plug wires and get a reason why I shold get a down pipe."

maybe i should have said "IF"you put on the THDP and the straight boots will no longer clear the pipe, they will rest on there and melt-

please forgive me for not realizing you were so stuck on keeping the most restrictive piece of the exhaust on the car for the rest of the cars life, you didnt specify what your intentions were for this car other than getting wires for the past 2 years:rolleyes:

just remember this, when you get your new wires and 2 of them are too long and they look like crap cause you have to fix the wires because they look like spagetti, go back to the first post of this thread and do what that guys said to do... he might know what he is talking about

good choice on wires! i too would like to support vendors who have no clue about our cars. that kind of response from MSD would've had me putting red's number on speed dial. hey quick'n', are those 2.5 down pipes comparable to a 3? looking to upgrade on a budget.

its a stainless 2.5 ATR downpipe made for the tta, i think they cost less than 200.00, and buy someones HOOKER test pipe and cut it down 1/2 to 1 inch and it will fit up perfectly-

i liked it alot, car went 119.8 with the stock muffler and full exhaust-
if you keep your combo small and not full out race, that 2.5 is a good alternative to spending 500 for the THDP that smacks the frame rail all the time-

I apologize. Frustration was coming out of me this morning. Bad start to a bad day, but off work tomorrow and wqill have a chance to spend time with my car.

If I would chose to upgrade the downpipe. I can swapo out two wires in the future.

There are many that say the converter is the most restrictive part. Speaking from an Engineering stand point, I can see why. Even if hollowed out, the exhaust will still lose velocity and experience great turbulance when hittin an widerspace.
Unfortunately the Downpipe seems to be a point of controversy. Somesay it is good for deep in the 11s, others say its the first thing that needs to go.

The stock one already rattles at times(need to look into that) which makes me kinf od wary of trying to fit a lareger one in there right now when the car needs to get back on the road the next day.

I have always had great results and longevity from MSD wires. I think I did make a great choice.

As far as the INDIVIDUAL tech representative on the other end of the phone, well he is only one person and not knowing about the TTA is not a sin. Its part of what makes the TTA cool in a way. I guess I am just used to it now. Only a handfull of people I talk to know whau it is. Out of that handfull only a few believe I actually have the car because of myths that they think are true. Like it has a Twin Turbo L98 or something. One guy said they only made like 50 of them.

So, I guess I just dont get turned off by someone not knowing exactly what it is anymore. Its not like its a TPI

I had all the problems with the magnecors. My vote is for the MSD's just for longetivity and performance.
