I want to get a T-brake for my 200 and don't know which one to get. It's a 3700# full weight TR with slicks running in the high 10's. It will see the track about 5 to 10 times a year.

You can get by with a Stage-Right manual-activation transbrake (you shift from first to second to release the brake) for about $225? But it is like revving the car in neutral and then putting the tranny in gear. Some people don't like them, but, for instance, Jason Cramer uses oneto go 9.80s in his TSM car.

An electric transbrake is offered by several TR tranny builders nowdays. It operates by engaging two gears at once via an electric solenoid. Let go of the button and only the low gearset is engaged. More money to go this route (you often have to buy a deep transpan) but is generally accepted as the better unit...mainly because its release time is better.

Lonnie Diers goes down to FL a few times a year (from his home in Cincinnati). You could save on some shipping if you work out the proper arrangement.

Is the electric brake worth the extra $700 considering you have to buy the deep pan??

IMO - Yes. But I am a heads up class participant that attends all the Midwest area Buick events (4-5 races a year, plus T&T passes on the days prior.)

You can build a house out of wood or brick...they will both work, but, one is better than the other. ;)

Scott,

I know of only two vendors, one in CA. the other in NY that make an elec. TB for the 2004r. How do these units compare, and what other tranny vendor makes one?

PS to aquickv6, I have tried to use the manual TB, and it's not easy, you better make sure that you use it right/or have it installed properly, or you might smoke your tranny like I have done:(

Also, the NY elec. TB does not require a deep pan (I think)

I am aware of an electric brake that does not use a deep pan, but have never used one so I have no knowledge of its viability.

Lonnie Diers of Extreme Automatics in Cincinnati, OH made mine. Lonnie had previously modified my reverse manual valve body to include the same electric trans brake, so he can do either. It is similar to Bruce's which is similar to the Scott McClay model. Each vendor can explain to you why their's is the best. ;)

Thanks Scott, I will contact Lonnie, Chris, and Bruce to discuss the details on their product. Maybe Lonnie will be coming down to FL this Summer.
