Is there any way you can put that up so that I can see it. collegehumor is a blocked page here at work:(

Maybe save it to your computer and e-mail it or something. Change the name, whatever, I'm no computer guru so I have no idea how to fix it. I love B'ball and would love to watch it.

thats pretty impressive

people who think jumping ability is innate are dumb. Anyone who takes on a serious training program focusing on explosive power like plyometrics would be able to pull off the kind of explosive upward power to jump that high.

Now making it look fancy is another story

When I was in school, there was this one white dude that would show up every now and then for the pick up games after school.

He was all of 5 foot 8 inches and could dunk the ball no sweat. His calfs were huge and he said he focused on them and that was why he could jump do high.

The guy in the video was tall... I would guess around 6'6" , probably more.

....nope. Didn't impress me *shrug*

Like said, the guy was probably 6'6, it can't be that hard to dunk when you're that tall. I'd be more impressed if it was the 5'8 guy doing it.
Hell, that kid in the video could just stick his arm up and be at 9'.

Could just be the fact that I can't stand basketball..... :D

What that guy could do.... tall guy or not, was pretty damn good. I remember when MJ was the man for dunking it @ a run from the freethrow line... this kid does it in high school.

I know what you mean about not standing something though... I can NOT sit through a game of baseball... the ONLY time I have EVER been able to handle it was when the diamondbacks were in the world series...

Being taller does make it a little easier but I know alot of guys that are 6'6 or taller who only wish they could jump like that. I would be interested in this kids exact height though. The only people who would not think that this guy is impressive are the ones who are clueless about basketball or someone who has never been able to dunk. If you have ever been able to dunk before, you would understand that you have to be very athletic to dunk like this kid. All I can say is, "Dat boy got rise like Betty Crocker!":D

I read that he is 6'2" and supposedly his vertical leap is somewhere around 44 - 46 inches..... When I was playing Bball I tried a lot of Plyometric exercises and did calf raises w/ and w/o weight and while it did help me a bit I could never jump like that guy! Hell I remember I even ordered those special Plyometric shoes that make you walk on your tippy toes seen advertised in the Bball mags (Spud Webb supposedly was using these).... I used them for about a month and didn't see any real results so I sold them to a friend... Honestly from talking with a few trainers and coaches genitics seems to play a major role! Some guys just have the right tendons(sp) in the ankle and calf that allow there muscles to contract at a faster rate which makes them more explosive... Just like how some people are naturally more flexible... As far as dunking goes it also helps if you can palm a basketball!

I would disagree, try bounding every day, do like four sets of ten from a full squat and jump for the sky as high as you can, land drop down to a squat and jump again

Working with weights wont do anything for you, i can donkey calf press over 400 lbs and leg press a hell of alot which is something I focus on for cycling and my verticle leap after a cycle of weight training is terrible. Youd think id be able to jump through a ceiling with the size of my legs but if you notice these guys with huge verticle leaps dont have huge legs, what they do have is just explosive muscle fiber.

I started bounding trying to increase my explosive power and the gains after a month are incredible over and above a regular weight training program. I went from barely able to touch an office cieling to damn near being able to punch a hole through it after about 3 weeks of just doing what I laid out above.

I stopped doing it and lost it just as that guy would if he stopped playing B ball and thus not jumping around all the time.

I think genetics are overblown when it comes to athletic ability. Perhaps the last 10% of the super elite may be genetic, if that much... ive seen too many things cycling that lead me to believe that. Anyhow thats just my guess, im no sports physiologist or whatever.

In my late teens I could take one step then an jump and grap on the the rim with both hands. I could dunk a smaller ball like a volly ball, but could never palm the basket ball well enough to dunk. I would do a lot of leg exercises and walking with weights.
You need a strong back and torsso to help in the jumping motion.
At the time I was 5'8 170lbs

I have to go along with genetics being the major role player and conditioning the helping hand.

At 6'2" I was dunking from 9th grade & on with ease. Now at the age of 31 being a little slower, all I can get is a tennis ball. :( My conditioning came from BMX racing since the 4th grade, I believe.

If you look at all good/great jumpers and leapers you'll notice that the calf muscle is very high on the leg towards the knee. Whereas people with strong legs ie. for squating, leg press, etc., theirs are lower. It is the design of the muscle that attributes...

Thanks anyway. I'll have to find somewhere else to watch it.

Plenty of white boys that can jump. I use to be one of them in high school and college, but I could never palm the ball well. At the Illinois High School All Star game there was one white boy doing that same sort of thing. I had a friend in college who could dunk at 5' 8" but also had some trouble palming the ball.
