800!

2 words: Forget it!! I'd use a T-400 w/ an American overdrive added to ti, if the OD is that necessary.
The 200 won't take that kind of HP/ft lbs. Flywheel has to be near 1000...

actually it will handle that
talk to Eric Schertz at dynotech performance
his Stage 1 car put out 800 to the wheels when he was running mid 9s at 140+mph

HERES SOME STRAIGHT TALK .a 2004r will handle this but for how long is the question.if you dont live within 50 miles of the guy you buy it from than be ready to shell out some bucks every time there is a failure .i have a car an84 hurst olds w/ a 406 chevy and a fogger making over 900 hp and running a 2004r and can easilt take it out and fix it every time i push the envelope.its been out and in alot. im not ashamed to say it ,and if you builders find this amusing your so called 800 hp or whatever aint 800 hp.it may be hot air.ANYWAY,we have an overdrive tranny for buick grand nationals which is an aod w/a jw ultra bell that will easily handle 850 plus hp without being on a razors edge everytime you make a pass.it bolts directly to the engine w/no adapter plates and has either a 2.40 or 2.84 first gear ratio, automatic, manualshift or transbrake.sorry to say it but this thing will outperform a 2004r vany day of the week when used at hi hp levels.dont get me wrong ,i love the 2004r but i dont like an unhappy customer thats 1000miles away.that is why unless you have a close relationship w/ the guy you buy it from or you can afford a spare at this level us some thing else including the mentioned 400 w/a gear vendors or similar odrive unit .we carry em if you are interested .www.ckperformance.com

if you are making 800rwhp+ it obviously isn't your daily driver.... put a TH400 in it and be happy that it takes the abuse all season and then refreshen it 1x per year.

You really should stab that drivetrain into a lightweight sleeper :D .

You say overdrive I say 200 4R

If you want an overdrive then a BUILT 200 4R is what you want.

Bruce Toelle at PTS has the ONLY internals that will not break and the best, easiest to install shift kit on the market--I've tried them all.

Bruce is in California. He can also recommend several shops that do good work that use the PTS-developed parts or PTS will send you the stuff if you can put it in. Accept no substitute! I believe there is a builder in TX that uses PTS parts, call Bruce or Mark at PTS for his name and location.

His website is http://www.2004rperformancecenter.com/

If you do not need OD and if this is 90+ for racing then use the 400 at this horsepower level. Before you switch to another auto family of trannies consider all that's involved--adapters, lines, shifters, etc. Multiply times 10 what anyone tells you it takes in time to make the switch.

hey aggie dont take advice from people who arent qualified to give it .would you buy shoes at a garage sale?if you have an honest 800 hpwr then go with the aod or 400 . the three compound planet sets in a 2004r dont equal the size of the single ravignaux style planet in the aod,the input shaft is double the size, never breaks a pump rotor or slide ,no band for 2nd ,more clutch surface area ,lite weight drums ,our 36 element drum ,dash mounted pressure control by turning a knob ,adjustable tbtrake release manual automatic w/transbrake ,and the uncompromised transmission knowledge of chris at ck performance.why take a chance on downtime with your car?we build em to drive them, not pull them out every few passes.you guys who posted about the 400,im glad to see that you understand the need for something else at tyhis point and arent trapped by those who can only build a 2004r .i love the 2004r but hey everything in the game has a limit,..................for those who accept the truth about physical limitations and dont have fog on their glasses www.ckperformance.comTHANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF CK PERFORMANCE OVER THE PAST 3 MONTHS SINCE WE JOINED THE BOARD .WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR BUSINESS AND APPRECIATE YOUR INTEREST IN OUR PRODUCTS

Great to have you on board Chris :D

hey chris, you got an adapter to bolt that aod(that's a ford trans, right?)up behind a big block mopar?i want od/lockup(?)for my 65 plymouth.it's only ~500 hp right now but it'll be getting new 526 low-block eventually, probably some spray too:D.

oh,and it's a 4200# car:eek: .

thanx,sean

i see you are a st fan.yes we have a jw ultra /adapter plate .right no the mopar section on the site aint done but you know where to find us if you want more info .............thanks www.ckperformance.com 718 626 4315............the enemy myself.............seems like no one cares at all......................what ever happened to mike mure from s t ?

AOD is a great trans if you use the 1-2-3 gears. Do not use the OD, it will not handle the HP. That is what Lentech told me. That is why they omit the OD in their really high HP units. The 200 will hold the HP in OD.
Not sure about 800 HP at the wheels, but there are plenty of guys in the high/mid 9s that use 200s.
Bruce can build any trans, from what I gather. I am more than satisfied with his work. 79 Suburban with a 454/th 400 combo pulling 7500 lbs to Glamis and did not skip a beat. Can not say that much for the last 2 rebuilds by various guys. You will not be diaappointed by Bruce.
