Did not want to spend the money on a prime tool wanted to make my own.Can I just break the handle off a screwdriver?I need some pics of homemade prime tools give me some ideas.

That's what I did. I cut the handle off the biggest screwdriver I had and stuck what was left in my drill.

Yes

I did the same but also welded a short piece tubing over the screwdriver flat to make sure it doesn't SLIP off.

Thats a good idea with the tube.

I got a locking extension from home depot so the bit didnt fall in the cover.

I used a 350 Buick dist. shaft and ground down the part that goes into the drill, that way it acts as a jig and works just great, a old 455 should also work
too.

I used an old cam sensor, hollowed out. Obviously it fits like it was made for that spot;) Then I took a SBC dist shaft and cut off the top. It slides in the cam sensor and the drill sits up high enough where I do not have to take anything off of the top of the engine.

well, i didnt have any screwdrivers i didnt need so i just did this

1/2" sears extension with wire stuck thru small hole in female side (quick release ball on ratchet sits in this hole) and wrapped a few turns around
a socket on the male

then i found a long bolt and used the appropriate sized socket stuck on the end of the extension. with the bolt clamped down by the drill it worked perfectly

clear as mud?

;)

Grind off the end of a padal drill bit. Then tack an old socket over it so it won't slip off when priming.

I got a junk buick distributor from the junk yard i think i paid 3 dollars. I than pull the dial pin out of the dist center shaft and removed it from the housing. I than cut the housing so that it was about the same size as the cam sensor (removed the head of the dist). I than put the shaft back through the housing with the and also the pin. I than welded a socket to the top of the shaft. The scocket must fit tight so that it is centered on the shaft. At this point you need an adapter that will go into the drive end of the scocket. I think i used a 1/4 inch to 3/8 drive adapter. Than all you have to do is connect your drill to it and start to prime the motor. It took me about 10 minutes to construct this and it works great and i have maybe 4 dollars in it.

Maybe this is a dumb quesiton, but can you prime the motor by just cranking it without plugs installed?

I used a 87 na v6 distributor. Tossed it in the trash and then said to myself, hey that will be my backup oil prime tool, so i pulled it back out of the trash.

Knocked out the pin for the gear, cut it down. Spent a few beers doing it.

Works perfect.
