why 2 different size hoses?

Hi all,
I'm still researching alcohol/water injection kits. But I've noticed on just about all of the home built kits (not sure about off the shelf ones) They use a 1/4" hose and a 3/8"or 5/16" hose.

what the advantage of using 2 size hoses and opposed to using either 1/4" or 3/8" all the way through?

one hose is the feed to the pump. it is not a pressure line but a suction and needs to be larger to supply the volume unrestricted and probably more so because you can just connect to the stock tank fitting ,

the smaller is the pressure side and doesnt require as large a line to supply the volume and it needs to be small enough to connect to the mister nozzle , i would think you could run a large hose but it would need to do all its adapting at the nozzle in plain veiw (not a good look)

Small hose on the pressure side fills faster. Large hose on the feed size doesnt pose a restriction.

btw: when the kits use 1/4" line to fee the nozzle, does it me the inside diameter is 1/4" or the ouside diameter???
