Why won't #4 turn on?

I noticed that my TH200R4 won't use it's fourth gear at all. What would cause this to happen? I do not have a speed sensor and I did not connect the converter lock up wire to anything.

Are you saying that your transmission is not shifting into fourth or that when it does, your scan tool doesn't see it?

Might that be because at the 3-4 shift you would be airborne?

Sounds like 3-4 shift valve might be stuck. did it sit for any period of time?

That tranny has laid without any use for several years. That stucked valve might be something to start with. Does anyone have any pictures of where it's located?

I accidentally ran out of transmission oil two weeks ago. The rubber seal was missing from the oil dipstick tube. When I changed the oil last weekend, I noticed some black powder around the magnet. The tranny didn't slip after the oil change, but I'm sure it won't last long.. There was also something white in oil, I think it was water. That long time storing outside has done it's harm to my car.

Water is the #1 enemy of the auto trans.
and yes very well might be stuck valve.

If water is the number one enemy, then I am taking my trans coolers off now!!!! I want that thing to get nice and hot so it can evaporate the water....

Sitting, water is... and it doesn't help to run water either. but that was funny
