$2600 will buy you a bulletproof TH400, decent converter, new driveshaft, dipstick tube, etc... and still have change leftover.
It will be the last time you need to crawl under the car and change transmissions...

If you don't like constantly working on your car and can live w/o overdrive, I'd seriously consider going the TH400 route.

If you go into it knowing the 200R4 is a weak link, you are one step ahead.

This is how I stumbled on to the GN I now have.

I bought it with a broken trans and immediately swapped-in a race prepped TH400 after buying it.

:)

Off Topick but,I couldn't not say something.
I cannot belive that all the regular posters on this form. People that i've gotten good advice from are telling this guy basicly that he should JUST SELL HIS CAR he started the thread asking "is this a normal price". if you haven't replaced a tranny than 2600 sounds like alot.

I'm new to this board and it's been more helpfull than any.
but, I think it's alitte harsh telling this guy "if you don't like the prices, tuff. SELL YOUR CAR" I've put alot of money in my car and i'm still not done, but that doesn't mean i like it. I own my Business and I could never tell a customer some of the stuff thats been posted. If people on the board are such purest "buick lovers" than more positive replys should be posted..
sorry my 2cents

just put me on your ignore list then  ... just stating the facts ..."I am a full time college student with a full time 40 hour a week day job, and a second night job delivering pizza's(not in the GN)... Im busy!" Oh I am a Buick lover but am also a realist !! These cars become a $$$ pit QUICK!!.. Especially when you don't do the work yourself ..

You can have Jim Paquet at JTP Performace Transmissions in Michigan do you tranny. He'd tell you he put all kinds of trix stuff in your tranny and charge you a reasonable price. Remmeber TRIX!!!!!!!!!!!! Also this guy is a MNRA guy. Screw's people..........i mine, sends trannsmissions all over the world.

$2600 for an all out tranny isn't a bad price if it has some sort of warranty. I build stock to all out trannys also. Depending on the car you might not need all the tricks and HD parts that are made. It is up to you if you want to add the "extra" parts to make it last. If you want a stock rebuild then your warranty will be less than if you built a bullet proof tranny. If $2600 sounds high then you might want to find a good used one on the board that is for sale. Mike Kurtz is one of the original 2004r rebuilders and has a good reputation.

You get what you pay for (most of the time).

If you are getting a trans done, go to an experienced Buick trans guy and spend the extra cash up front getting a quality trans. if your trans is acting funny now with 107K on it, it is more than likely shot and a shift kit is not going to do anything for you. Ask me how I know. :p If you are not running 10s, I do not think you need to spend $2600 on a trans. I think you could get by with a $1500-$1800 transmissions. Just make sure you use someone in the Buick community. There are several quality builders on this board that can help you out. Good Luck
