Will bad VSS cause tach to read inaccurate?

my speedo stopped working and my tach will not go much past 3K. Could they be related?

If your scanmaster reads MPH, the VSS is working. If your cruise is working, the VSS is working. Torque converter locks up normally at 45 MPH.. the VSS is working.

Your guage issues??? Dunno. The guages share the same power, that is probably true, but the signal will be different.

I fixed my Speedo problem. Now the tach is still an issue. It seems like it does not want to go past 3K, even though the engine is. Any deas on what to check?
