Can you remove the side molding (that runs from front to back) on a GN? I know on the 4th Gen Trans Am's the molding is stuck on with double sided adhesive tape, and you can heat it up and peel it off.

Is the GN molding riveted to the body, or is it stuck on with something like 3M tape?

They used both. You'll have to investigate to see which one you have. Yo should be able to take the inner panel off and see.

Typically, side moulding is attached with adhesive as you've described. However, there are styles of moulding with a pressed in insert that has the base riveted on. In any case, upon removing the glued on type, the paint will be damaged where the moulding was attached, caused by the adhesive. You can't polish out the damage, it must be refinished.

I have had both.

My 87 with rusty doors had adhesive, and the parts car I bought with clean doors had 6 or 8 small holes drilled into it for the molding I didn't want on the car. That was a waste of $$$$$$$.

Mine is riveted on too much to my dismay. It's easy to tell if you have the kind that rivets on since it's two pieces. Just peel back the middle rubber at one end and you'll be able to see how the metal part is riveted.
