wiped cam lobe

Took the motor out of my 85 GN and the #1 lifters where dished out with the lobe on the cam almost gone. The # on the motor was a 4140 .

Should I get a 109 block or keep the 4140 ?
The rebuilt motor had 20,000 miles when the cam went.
Are the lifters bad about dishing?
Can I run roller lifters and a mild cam or do I have to run a roller cam?

new bearings, a stock cam and if you want roller rockers, you can get away with it. If you wanna spend the money, do like I am doing...Get custom! If you want power and speed, go roller all the way..Rockers, cam, lifters, everything. I am going Harlem Sharp roller rockers, custom Dave Weber Cam, and a custom set-up by Dave Weber with everything included for a complete install. If you wanna save some time and $$, get the stock set-up back together with stock bearings, cam and lifters, and that set-up has been known to pull into the 12's. Good luck!

The 140 block is fine. Especially since there is so little miles on it. That is what I run, even when I convert it to IC'ed 87 parts. I would get a new cam and lifters (and cam bearings) and get it back together. I have read the lifters do go bad if you buy cheap ones. Most people like to run GM lifters for a little more money. Roller lifters only go with a roller cam. And there is some money!!! I run a Postons 107T and high rev lifters and it is great. Not too big, but don't need to big in these cars. I took it out to swap bearings and it has very little wear on it, so I am happy. Thinking about going a bit bigger though since I have ported heads, intake, going to a bigger turbo, etc. Let me know and I'll sell you the 107T in with all your other parts that will be heading your way!

Your block is fine, for a street car, just like any other you need to keep it out of detonation. I've run for years, with no block related problems.

I've gone to roller cams, because of the cam lobe issues.
You have to run roller lifters with a roller cam. The small Roller cams aren't much larger then the stockers. A 206/206 isn't any more difficult to tune, or adjust then a stocker.

roller what squid? Roller cams usually sell for around 179.99 from summit (204/214) which is an edlebrock set-up...Can be shipped to your door for under 200 when I checked about 6 months ago...That set comes with roller lifters, but you still need to buy roller rockers, and a new set of push-rods.

The 204/214 isn't a roller, its a hydralic flat tappet cam, and its a great cam, but not a roller, typical rollers are 800$+

Big cam, whether it is solid, roller, hydraulic, is only worth it with the rest of the combo. You have a good start with ported intake, TB, big mouth cold air, but you could also need ported heads, turbo, and injectors to make it really come alive. This also requires a higher stall converter. I'd error on the safe side (small side) when it comes to cam selection.

the block is 40 over now so just honing it
every thing in the motor and heads will be new
38 or 42 injectors
turbo stock for now
Ported intake, TB, big mouth cold air from a gooood friend.
340 fuel pump with hotwire.
cam size don't no yet
maybe a 2800 stall
What do you all think?

Sounds like a pretty healthy start to me. Then you can start tweaking, and slowly improving. Because you know, it's just never fast enough!
