wont run when warmed up

My friend has 87 Turbo T, completely stock, 140,000 miles or so. The car will run great when you start it up and go. About 3 miles or so later it runs like crap.
When he tries to hit the gas it revs way up but doesn't hardly go. What could i check

Are you saying that the car doesn't accelerate very well[engine power],or are you saying that the engine revs,but the car doesn't move[transmission]?

It doesnt accelerate as in lack of power. The motor revs but doesn't pull.

Trouble codes?

Did you hook up a scan tool?

No i havent hooked up a scan tool cause i don't know where to start

Anytime there is a problem with a car I plug in a scan tool to check for trouble code first. Then I go from there.

I used the old paper clip trick and there is no codes

My car did something simular when it warmed up, it will surge while i'm on boost, it turned out to be a bad MAF, the scantool did not read a bad MAF but I checked the air flow reading and it showed too high readings. It has to be between 5-6 grams at idle warmed up anything above that or less will make it run crappy. Try to unplug the MAF and see if it runs better.
