Woot, new best today at the track. The cooler weather is really helping. The car is an 87 Regal with 123,000 miles. Here's the list of mods, if I don't mention it, it is factory stock from 1987:

-Walbro fuel pump, stock wiring
-DIY adjustable waste gate rod
-RJC boost controller and power plate
-Straight pipe in place of catalytic converter
-110 octane
-About 17 PSI
-275 BFG radial TA's in the back
-Kenne Bell Hi-Lo chip from 1988, lol

Second pass of the night was the best, here it is:

60 foot- 1.8793
1/8- 8.477 @ 81.07
1/4- 13.313 @ 101.26

I am happy as can be with the times. This is all with the stock 123K valve springs, injectors, MAF sensor, timing set, everything.

I tried turning up the boost hoping for a 12 second ET, but it started to detonate a bit so I backed the boost back down. I don't think it should be detonating at 20 PSI on 110 octane, so I think the stock injectors are kinda clogged or maybe the fuel pump is running out of voltage. I plan to remove the injectors and have them cleaned, and hotwire the pump. Hopefully that takes care of the detonation problem at 20 PSI and I can go knock out some 12's!

These cars rock!

get rid of the chip and get an adjustable one from TurboTweak Home you wont be dissapointed i run 25psi and 24* timing on 110 i ran a 12.98 on 94 octane 17psi also go and get bigger injectors now just in case you upgrade turbos and i bet you do

I don't have any extra money to throw at the car right now, or the bigger injectors and the TT chip would already be done! I tried a Thrasher chip that a buddy had and I actually got more detonation than with the KB chip, so that was kind of discouraging. Next payday though, I'll for sure have to look into one of Eric's chips!

didnt see that stock wiring you better get a hotwire kit before u turn the boost up. nice runs though. also what is you fuel pressure line off do you have an adjustable one?

I don't know what the fuel pressure is, I've never put a gauge on it.

It's the stock regulator, from 1987, lol.

Almost stock ones are cool!

Cleaning up my junk recently... I just found my best time slip from "back in the day"

10/7/89 at Englishtown NJ

13.057
105.63
2.317 60ft!

Mods... K&N cone, some old chip from back then, "crushed" fuel pressure regulator... gutted cat... 255/50/16 Goodyear Eagles... air bag... that's it.

ecna
do u remeber the fuel and boost u were running becous that mph is very close to what i ran on 20psi with 100 octane .

I never had an adjustable waste gate or even a real boost gauge... so it was whatever the chip could do. If you're asking fuel pressure... again.. no clue... back then people would take the stock pressure regulator and crush it... some vendors actually did it and scraped the stock part number off the side. If you mean octane and the like... I would have put in a bunch of race gas at the track... but wouldn't know which.

One thing interesting about my car was that I blew up the stock tranny with about 5000 miles on the car. The Buick dealer sent it to Aamco to be redone. Years later when the car came apart, we found out that it didn't even have the turbo torque converter in it. I think that was why my car always shorted so horrible but MPH'd better than you would think.

I'm sure having no miles on the cars helped, but I think there is something to be said for keeping things simple.

Other runs that day...

Run 1 - 13.725 / 103.68 / 2.301
Run 2 - 13.057 / 105.63 / 2.317
Run 3 - 13.219 / 104.89 / 2.135
Run 4 - 13.526 / 104.40 / 2.280
Run 5 - 13.402 / 96.98 / 2.203 (First round on a 13.380 dial-in, probably lifted or on the brakes)
Run 6 - 13.437 / 105.88 / 2.321 (Second round on a 13.380)
Run 7 - 13.733 / 95.74 / 2.288 (Third round win on a 13.380, way ahead of the other guy, probably lifted)
Run 8 - 13.764 / 93.94 / 2.403 (Final round win... other guy bulbed)

Just re-read your post... I'm sure I would have run way more than 100 octane.

Crush the regulator for higher fuel pressure and see your times lower even more...;)

EDIT: You've got it covered! Congrats!

when you put in your gas did you get rid of your regular gas 1 or 2 gallons could really cut your octane down to 97 96 when i run 110 octane i run 48 to 50 psi in fuel

crazy tou went that fast without a boost guage or a scan tool i cant wait to get a i/c motor into my car and tune it

Great times. Seems about right on for the times. Have fun with it and get a scantool.

These cars rock!

I ran nearly the exact times:
All stock except:
Adj fpr
gutted cat
14" cone K&N behind the grill
19# boost
hotwired syclone pump
STOCK chip
275/50/15 M&H Racemasters
2 flowmasters in place of the crossflow muffler
I ran best of 8.44. I had the KB chip but it slowed me down 1/10:confused:

While injectors are out for cleaning/flow testing (Chuck Leeper=Old Buzzard on turbobuicks.com), install an adj FPR & FP gauge (remote--not "cheapo" on fuel rail), and install your hotwire kit too.

Your mph looks good for your ET--but ET is hampered by mediocre 60' times. You should do about 0.3-0.4 sec better ET while mph would probably be about same. Seems like 13.0 sec and 101mph are a more typical match.

Good luck!
