....removing an alternator from a Dodge Caliber! Wife's POS was making sounds like a bucket of bolts being shaken in a tin can. Damn alternator on these things have a decoupler pulley that blows out their bearing. What a pain in the ass removing this thing. Some brainiac sure designed this setup. Absolutely no room to work.

And that is why I didn't become a mechanic! Going to feel this in the morning. Just an aggravating crap procedure to do what is actually a simple task, changing the decoupler pulley.

Nissan does that shit to. They make a tool kit for that style pulley. very common problem with those alternators .That stupid triple square socket to hold shaft

I just zipped mine off with an impact wrench and 17mm allen head bit. Same thing to put it back on. That was the easy part. I'd slit my wrists if I had to work on these POS newer cars every day!

My wife's Altima with CVT has been replaced twice under warranty 17k miles and again at 28k. Now at 58k it needs a power window motor and wheel bearing. Biggest piece of crap I've ever purchased.

Ahhhhh! The lovely sounds of gearheads with busted knuckles! Such a sweet sound! As for WHY we all do this? Well, that's impossible to answer..........I have no damn idea!

So, we whine, bitch, complain, kick, scream, cuss, fart, throw things, curse every car manufacturer in the world, bleed from horrible wounds inflicted by flying tools, hacksaws, air hammers, spinning broken bolts, slashed torsos from slipping breaker bars!!!! And what does it accomplish? ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING! I'm very proud of all the various tools sticking out of the walls of my garage.....all propelled with turbo fueled aggravation because the simplest job on a car turns out to be as aggravating as invading Afghanistan with a water pistol!!

Yet, we continue to do this everyday, all of our lives until we die of a heart attack, or crushed by a 4,000 lb chassis due to a jack made in China..........we never quit! We ALWAYS fix it! But, we also always whine....it's in our blood! It's only entertaining to the sane people out there! For us whiny mechanics it's normal!

We are all professional "Whiny Mechanics!" That has a nice ring to it, ya think?

Remember, if you need lessons on how to cuss, scream, draw blood, beat up carburetors, kick fenders in, pour gasoline down your throat out of frustration, or ram a rusty driveshaft up somewhere, just call Mark, Charlie, or ME! We LOVE to show our expertise in this area. We are damn good at it! I mean, look at what Mark just went through!

I would just like to see what goes on behind the scenes when they design these pieces of shit. "Ah yeah, let's put this fenderwell right here so it makes it a major deal to remove the alternator. But we could move it out a 1/4" to make it easier for repairs down the road, naah, more fun to think about all the misery we are going to cause!"
