awsome, you know your showing your age when all you can recall is playing with folded up paper airplanes, man they really get in to detail with those things, great post

I flew radio control helicopters and airplanes for years....those things will suck up money faster than an old Buick! It was easy to have $4K tied up in one heli, and the slightest mishap would cost you $400 to fix. (If you're pushing your skills and trying to learn more, you'll crash 5-10 times a year). The fuel was almost $30/gallon, and I used to go through 20-30 gallons a year. I sold everything at a huge loss, and got into TBs again.

Nice! They are a lot of fun though. My dad spent a good 2-3 years building one...so I could crash it the first time out...oops.

LOL, that is a good yet sad story.

The electric fans are definitely the way to go. I have a nitro RC car and I have a hell of a time tuning that thing on the ground. I couldn't imagine trying to fly it, land it, tune it, fly it, land it, tune it, until it was right. Plus the REAL jets start at around $2000.

I'll bet those can get REAL expensive with all the bells and whistles. Very kool tho.

Anyone remember TUBE multi-channel transmitters, or single channel rubber band escapements?:p

I do, unfortunately. ;)

All our flying fields are now housing developments.

Kyle has one of those RC trucks he likes to play with every now and again. I personally don't see paying $700 for an RC truck...but to each his own. Little sucker is fast though...goes about 40 mph!

Hopefully that won't happen when you race the NEON

I was 12 when I wrecked his plane...it was a father/daughter project and he didn't get mad at me at all...of course, you bring a valid point...could be why he didn't give me the GN when I was 16.

I spent 2 years building a starter kit "Minnie Mambo" single channel rubber band escapement control.

Silk wings, lots of dope paint.

Flew it once and it flew like a bird, perfectly, even landed okay.

My father took it to work, forgot the transmitter, so his flying buddy tried it with his tube multi-channel unit and it worked to 100 feet so they launched it.

It flew away..... straight as an arrow.....:(

Took him 2 years to find it walking in the woods at lunchtime in the summer.

Not much left of it either. :(

I never forgave him, I guess it's about time to let it go. ;)
