looking for a write up/install doc on pressing in the new a frame bushings, with basic hand tools

I've been researching the same thing. Unfortunately there is nothing much on front suspension upgrades at gnttype.org.

Check out the pictures I attached. This is how I did it with no special tools. The picture is of the rear control arm, but I did the front lower arms the same way. One picture is how I pressed them out. The other is how I pressed the new bushing in. Search the other board. I posted to a thread there with some more writeup on how I did it.

Oh, now I see you actually said "A" frame bushings. I thought you meant frame bushings, as in body bushings. I never was much good at thinking.
OK, step 1: take off upper arm. Step 2: remove old bushings. Step 3: install new bushings. Step 4: re-install upper arm. Step 5: repeat steps 1-4 on other side. Step 6: get an alignment.
Step 1: raise the car, use jackstands on the frame behind the tires, take off the tires, use floor jack to support lower arm near balljoint, separate upper ball joint with ball joint fork. Unbolt Upper A frame at cross shaft, keep shim packs together and put back like they came out. Remove big nuts and washers on end of shaft.
Steps 2 & 3: suggestion, if you don't have an air hammer with chisels, take the loose arms to a shop, garage or machine shop and have them do the removal and installation of the bushings, it'll save you much time, aggravation and grief. If you wanna do it yourself, I ain't helping. You press (beat) them out and press (beat) them in CAREFULLY.
Step 4: Put shim packs back where they were so the alignment is still close.
Oh yeah, very important, Don't tighten the big bolts on the ends of the shaft until the car is back on the ground, keeps them the bushings from being preloaded and failing prematurely.
Step 5: get an alignment, please, it will have changed, unless you didn't need bushings in the first place.
I probably missed a few small steps, but I'm tired and it's late (for an Old Man). HTH.
