I know of several others that suffered a similar fate. Jeff Rand had a 3.8 liter Stage I block that I originally bought new from Jason Cramer that cracked in the lifter valley and wasn't repairable, and I know Manual Bogozian busted one up too as I saw it up for sale recently with a 12" long weld repair on the side. You're more than welcome to any 3.8 Stage I or II blocks I come across. If any turn up I'll let you know.

Neal

Thanks for the offer. It is weird how different people have had different results. Myself I have two cars that have 3.8 stage ones and had zero problems. I would say I am the lucky one but the guys I listed above and others I know have also had good luck.

Kip,

I don't know what causes them to crack. Maybe it's poor metalurgy, thin castings or both. It stands to reason that the ones that are out there and have been in service for a while are the good ones. What gives me the willies is when a NOS one pops up and everyone jumps all over themselves to own it. If it's a good block it's worth the $$ but if the results are like some I've seen I feel for the person because it was a painful and costly experience for me and one I wouldn't wish on anyone else. There is an obscure version of the 3.8 Offcenter Stage IIwith siameese cylinder bores. Those are the good ones, I'd like to find a couple more.

Neal, I hope no one ever has bad luck with one again. All I am trying to clear up here is that all the 3.8 stage blocks do not have this problem. Your point of the ones in service and have been for some time have proven them self should be noted by future buyers/builders.

This has me a little concerned. I have a 3.8 s2 block that I was going to build.

Kip,
I've got a new 4.1 block for sale in the Stage 2 Parts For Sale Section.
Thanks
John
