As sophisticated as the XFI is, it would be nice if it could serve a datalogger function too - so a separate FAST Datalogger wouldn't be necessary. Is this function something that the unit is capable of, and in the future may be "factory-enabled?"

I would say probably not, but their has bin talk of an improved Data Logger.
The only problem we found with the Data Logger has bin in the wiring harness issues on the Data Logger. Or you could switch to a BS3, It has high speed internal data logging.

XFI does datalog without an external box. There is one available though, useful for classes that do no allow laptops in cars past a certain point.

A laptop is an external box IMO :). I much prefer a flick of a switch with a Datalogger. I wanted to know if there was hope that near-future XFI versions would record logs on the XFI box itself. I think Dale caught my drift. Thanks.
