I love the marketing on this and it appeals to alot of people. I'm not for street racing and this is something i can see myself at. Check out this website, heard on the local news this morning that texas motor speedway will turn the pit into an 1/8th of a mile track on july 3rd every friday. 4 classes of cars and trucks and there is even a "beat the heat" where you can measure your car against law enforcement vehicles. I don't condone running from the law but i've always had that teenage curiousity if they would be able to hang with me. Especially the new charger units. But seriously it's a safe enviroment, ER people will be onhand and it'll be done right. Just thought i would post this, i wonder if any other nascar type tracks run something like this. I've never heard of it, but there are about 6 local tracks in the DFW area from 1/8 to a 1/4 within 50 miles from me.

Just wanted to share, enjoy and what's your input?

TMS Announces Scion Drag-N-Brag Program To Help Metroplex Curb Illegal Street Racing - News - Texas Motor Speedway

They do this at a lot of tracks. I saw it at Infineon this year and last.

It was like the police were saying "Hey we drive 16.6 second 1/4 mile cars!!" Honda's were killing them.

BUT put a 12 inch curb at the 8th and then we'll see who's laughing.

Anyone thinking what I'm thinking.

Did you see this division?

Tuner Division: Any three-, four- or six-cylinder vehicle with stock body and interior

Our cars could dominate this easily. Am I missing something?

holy crap, that's 10 miles from my house. It's time to get the TTA out of the garage.

A track, hmm, you mean those things that the hippies in Minnesota have successfully stopped from being built since the 1960's? Those things the hippies forced to shut down any where remotely close to the biggest cities in the state? The same people complaining about the noise and environmental impact are the same people wondering why kids are dying from street racing or why people are speeding down their streets making it unsafe for their own children.

So yeah, nothing like this will happen here and if it did I bet 30 people tops would show up for it. Who can really take a day off, put the car on a trailer, drive 120 miles to a track....on a Wednesday! Ugh, I hate this place, Oregon was so hippie but at least there I got to race at two different tracks each weekend, both within 20 miles from my place.

To any place that does run something like this, that "beat the heat" program is a good program that really does help curb street racing. They have it at PIR every weekend. The Sheriff's office along with a couple of local PD's sponsor this 11 second Camaro that will race anyone and light them up all the way down the track. :D

i've bot BIR 30 miles from me one way, Interstate Dragway over by Fargo, and i used to live 30 miles from Grove Creek.
nope, no tracks in MN..
whatever happened to that track that was supposedly gonna be built in or around the metro area a few years ago? they had a flashy website and everything..

Yep, no tracks in MN close to Minneapolis or St. Paul. I have run at BIR and Interstate and both are far enough away its not just a quick toss the car on the trailer and go, its an all day thing. The street racing in the cities here is out of hand but the same people complaining about it are the same people preventing a new track from being built closer to the cities. With that being said, yep, no tracks in Minnesota worth a damn, close to the cities.

yea we have the same prob in here were the motor city and dont have a dragstrip a few years ago some people wanted to put in a roundy round track and the people that complained about the noise didnt even know when they did the noise test cause they didnt hear it then they wonder y $h*t like this happens.Driver Sought in Deadly Street Race p.s watch the video

We have something like this called street drags at the LaCrosse Interstate Speedway. It's a circle track. They do the racing on the front straightaway but you only race for 173 feet and you have to be able to slowdown as the corner comes pretty quick. They have them every 2nd Friday of the month during the summer. Even though the track is small they get a big turnout, I've seen cars 4 deep lied up halfway around the track.

Hopefully Detroit can realize the money to be made from putting in a municiple track within the city limits. Its the same thing here but only a few are organized while the rest are just out on the interstates doing roll races. Minneapolis has this great way of stopping street racing. They set up a sting to watch the races for a while. Once they have enough video they raid the spots and write out tickets, arrest people, and seize cars. Then they scoot the rest over to St. Paul and let them deal with it. Isnt that a great way to stop street racing?

this sucks

yes this is in my own back yard and my car decides to take a dive. Sucks but it's ok, guess i'll be the spectator. besides i'm scheduled for backsurgery next monday so i won't be doing anything for awhile. guess i'll check out who's got what towards the end of this since i'll be rehabbing.
