Walbro Fuel Pump Update

If you order a Fuel pump from Racetronix the use a Walbro340 that the machine in house to fit our Buicks

The 340 was not effected by this problem.

Sorry you did not like the response, here is the brutal facts. Walbro does not offer ANY warranty on pumps. They are stepping up and taking care of them and they did it without hesitation when I brought this to their attention with the help of some members here. You were told that the pump would be exchanged I see you failed to mention that part. I have sold these pumps for over 15 years and they have been GREAT. look how many folks use them. Now they have a problem that they are WILLING TO TAKE CARE OF and now they get bashed like they are the worst company in the world. They are not going to fix this on your terms they are going to do it on theirs. You think Walbro wants to jump back and make the new pump that will work like a double pumper after the things that have been said? It is no wonder that most aftermarket companies want nothing to do with Turbo Buicks. I got involved with this problem and got soemthing done, now people bash me, send me crappy emails, complain about stuff they bought 3 years ago that still works fine. It would have been better to do what all the other guys did that sell Walbro, NOTHING and that is what you would be getting.
I know this sucks, it suck for me too, but let them at least let them fix it.

Not Sure why anyone would throw you under the bus here, but I certainly appreciate your efforts.

I can also appreciate Walbro Stepping up with their offer on a pump they have never offered warranty on.

The Racetronix 340M has been working well for me, I've had 1 fail in the 10-12 I've installed in the last 2 years

Never had one fail in about 8 pumps. Just got 2 more a couple weeks ago.
I did have some GM pumps fail on me but it was grounding issues that caused it.

Let me set a few things straight. First off, it is not throwing under the bus... I am not happy with what I believe is a failure to stand behing a product that a vendor sells.

Next, there is no failure to explain anything. You did not in any way tell me that it would be exchanged. You told me that you would not do anything for me because Walbro would not exchange it for you unless they knew it was bad. You told me that it was only a certain date time frame and that was currently being determined. Now it appears to be more than a suspected 3 to 4 month time frame with this problem. That in fact puts me at a severe undesire to try it out as you suggested.

Maybe you did not understand me correctly - I was requesting store credit for a BRAND NEW - ONLY OPENED TO VERIFY THE PUMP MODEL , STILL IN THE FTS BOX - NEVER INSTALLED OR USED PUMP. Not the defective pump in my tank right now.

Now I am not bashing Walbro either. I was stating that I was in a situation that was going to force me to purchase another style of a pump (as suggested by many - and explained by me), being a 340M - which you do not offer to your customers. So jumping at people for being concerned that damage could very well occur by using a known defective pump is uncalled for. What I was asking for was a credit for a pump purchased from you so I could offset the monies needed to purchase another style pump elsewhere.

Ok no warranty, same thing for Denso or Bosch but those weren't dying like the plague.

Do you think customers that bought their pumps and caused damage WANT them?

No need for a double pumper from a company that can't get one pump to stay alive let alone try for two. We'll spend the extra $$ on quality known pumps from here on out.

A company sells a crowd design flawed pumps, doesn't make any announcement about said designed flawed pump to vendors or customers and we're the ones that they should have nothing to do with?

Wow, this is getting clearer and clearer where things sit.

Mike, I appreciate what you and Walbro are doing.
When mine went out, I did not have a fuel pressure gauge. I managed to limp home, but when I got home I had massive amounts of blowby. I did a leakdown test and determined that I either had broken rings or ring lands. But that is my stupidity for not listening to my engine crying out for help. And not being properly instrumented. I now have a fuel pressure gauge and a Racetronix kit, which includes a Walbro pump, which works just dandy.
And I have a fully forged engine sitting in my garage almost ready to install. I am not complaining, btw. When I get the new pump, I will go to a dual pump setup with two great Walbro pumps. Win-win, as far as I am concerned.
Thanks again, Mike.

Yeah, I should find a pitcher and use that as my avatar. You may have started something. Red was was always my favorite.
I have a turbocharged GM car. I've got a couple of extra cylinders, however. Namely a 97 Pontiac Formula with an STS butt turbo. The current engine is the stock factory 347. I am building a fully forged 355, fully balanced, turbo cam, aftermarket intake, 58 mm throttle body (stock is 48) electric water pump, Snow Stage 2 methanol injection, and an off-road y-pipe. It's instrumented with EGT, Fuel Pressure, Boost Pressure and Trans Temp. It has a 3400 stall and a custom tune by myself.
It's current configuration dynoed at 400 rwhp, I estimate the new engine should dyno around 600+ rwhp at high boost (I have a 2 stage boost controller).
It's very peppy and I enjoy driving it very much. The one day I went to the track the fuel pressure regulator went out and I only managed a 13.0. Shortly after that the fuel pump went out, and I was done.
The new engine should be in and tuned by the spring, and I hope to be a bit quicker.
I know it's not a Buick, and it has too many cylinders, but it is a GM and it is turbo'd. I jumped on board because I have one of the faulty Walbros, which cost me my current engine. But the new one will be much faster, and when I do get it going, I will need to dual up my current Racetronix Walbro with the replacement Walbro to support the 60 pound injectors and 12 pounds of boost I will end up with.

sounds like a fun car- but i have a minor nitpick.. the 97 F bodies had the LT1- which is a 350, not a 347. in 98, they went to the LS1- which is a 346..

O.K., doesn't really matter to me. However, it is called a 5.7 liter, which converts to 347.835 341 34 cubic inches on the converter I used. Peace.
It is peppy and fun to drive, no matter what.

engines

Post info when the car is running. Nothing wrong with boost on a gm small block.

Yeah, I should find a pitcher and use that as my avatar.

Here ya go ;)

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I would call it a 348. Of similar reference, my Kawasaki 750 was actually 738 cc. But novaderik is correct in that it was the last fbody based on the old SBC engine, but with aluminum heads and reverse cooling. The LS1 was totally different, aluminum block, etc.
And I'll try to switch my avatar, kool jpgs. ;-)
Thanks, Wes.

i think the old school 350 actually came in at 349 or so ci, and kind of "grew into" a 350 as the cylinders wore a bit.

You guys are scaring me. I purchased a Walbro from gbodyparts earlier this year. I don't have the numbers off of it but I hope it's not one of the faulty ones.

I'm pretty sure Gbody sells Racetronix stuff, in which case you are ok.

Just called Gbody and the guy that checked one of theirs ended in 169. What about the denso one? Who's running it and what vendor handles it. I'd like to get a new one in so I can make a run to the track before they close for the winter.

To be sure go to Racetronix & get Jack to send you a pump kit! He is the guy that makes them in house with HIS machine so then there is NO Confusion!!
I was at his shop & it it SO CLEAN!! Sort of "Fanatic Clean' but he knows WTF he is doing!! That I now know 100%!!

Denso Supra pump is the way to go. I along with a few others are running them. See the specific thread for details as to not have this thread go off subject.
Sparkplugs.com is the authorized dealer.
There is a guy on ebay selling them for 150 name is silverio or something of that nature.
