Chris, I'm not doubting you are correct, I just don't understand how what was OK would now, not be OK when it wasn't messed with. Any other help or explanations? thanks,

    2004R Help needed

This isn't anything that would have changed when they replaced the govenor gear, is it? It didn't start doing this until they changed that gear. Could TV adjustment affect this?

    2004R Help needed

I am running a 350/2004R combo in a '64 Chevy II Wagon. The trans is about 3 years old with probably less than 10,000 miles on it. It is a Level II from Bow Tie Overdrives. When I first installed it, the trans would auto-shift the 1-2 shift at WOT at about 5,400 RPM, even with the shifter...

    2004R Output shaft bearing

Thanks, I appreciate that. The point is the shop put in the wrong gear and didn't even tell me. It was not the same gear they took out. They took out a 10 tooth and put in a 13. With the 10 I could get it close. Now I have to remove the pan and put in another gear after I just paid them $85...

    2004R Output shaft bearing

Thanks, I appreciate the information. What they apparently did was to replace the the green 10 tooth gear with the white 13 tooth gear. I will never be able to calibrate my speedo with that gear. I would need a 37 or 38 tooth gear with the 13 tooth drive gear. they do not even make any...

    2004R Output shaft bearing

What they took out is a green 14 tooth gear. What they put in was suppossedly the same. The part number on the bag it came in reads 8634934. The exploded drawing and parts list that were posted on this site only show a 13 tooth white gear with a P/N of 8634934 and a 12 tooth white gear with...

    2004R Output shaft bearing

They replaced the govenor gear today and I picked the car up. Everything seems to be fine, except the speedometer which always read 11% high, now reads about 35% high. They again insist that they did nothing that could affect this. The govenor gear they took out was the green one. Green was...

    2004R Output shaft bearing

OK I got a call from the Tranny shop a while ago. They claim they found the problem. The govenor gear was stripped. He called around to find one and since mine has the green gear, instead of the normal white or red, the place that had it wanted $55 plus $35 to overnight it. Then he got a...

    2004R Output shaft bearing

Update: He claimed he put everything back exactly as it was and didn't mess with the TV. I had changed the fluid at the end of last season, probably in October. The fluid was not burned. There were some metal shavings in the pan from the bearing and yoke, but he indicated that he didn't...

    2004R Output shaft bearing

OK, so here is what has transpired since I originally posted this. After pulling the DS last Tues night and seeing the severely galled yoke, I took the car up to the Cottman Trans shop about 5 miles from my house on Wednesday afternoon. Car still ran fine and the trans shifted fine. They...

    2004R Output shaft bearing

Gotcha, Side play is what I was referring to. I took the car to a trans shop today. They took a quick look and agreed that it was probably a bad bushing. He has the tool needed. He told me to expect to pay about $100 plus parts. If I were to buy the puller, it is about $100. He is...

    2004R Output shaft bearing

Anyone care to guess how much end play is acceptable with the tailshaft seal removed and the yoke out?

    2004R Output shaft bearing

The rear output shaft is supported by a bushing and not a bearing?!!! I did not know that. Any idea of where I might be able to find an exploded view of one of these transmissions? I don't know the condition of the yoke. I have not removed the driveshaft yet. Should I suspect damage?
