    Painting over original laquer?

Its been my experance that in 78. GM used a single stage acrilic enamal on most of their cars. The GN is an exception to the rule. In my restoration bussness I usually strip all my cars down to bare metal or fiberglass. In your case, "IF" its ths original paint and your shure of it. You could...

    clear coat

Need more information. When you painted your car. Did you base/clear or single stage? Sence you have already gone through. You need to go ahead and sand the orange peal all the way out of the entire car. Then go back with base at least over the areas that you went through a couple of coats. Then...

    Removing hood emblems

The fishing line trick will work fine. After that use you fingernail to get the foam part of the decal off. Then when you get down to the last bit. 3M's adhesive remover will work to get the rest of it off.

    Paint on the cheap?????

The shows on TV don't show everything. Its not as easy as it looks. Maaco will do a better job and wont have it as long as it will take you to do the job. I hate Maaco and I would never tell anybody to go there. I'm just telling you that, if you have no idea what your doing except what you have...

Maaco, how bad of an idea?

I've been restoring cars for a living for the last 15 years. Before that I restored them for fun. I have been painting sence I was 13 years old and I'm 47 now. I have a 87 GN that has the same problem that you do now. My problem is the time to do it. I'm too bussy with paying jobs. These...

My car is running too lean.

OK Its an 87 G/N. I've had it about a year now. I did all the things that was sugjested to tune it up when I got the car. Including putting on all new vacume lines. Its all stock and ran very well after I welded up the headers and replaced the cat with a high flow and the down pipe with a 2 1/2...

    Bird Poop

I agree with Red. Bird poop is very acidic and it will etch the paint very fast. I hope you didn't leave it on the car for long and you have enough clear on the car to get it off. Then try to stay away from where birds hang out. Like trees and over head wires.

    Replie to repainting your car

If you've never done this before. You should take it one step at a time. Otherwise you stand a chance of loosing some of the materials. If you reread my last post I covered most of what you will need.. Get the car striped down to bare metal first. After you have done that you will need metal...

    Replie to repainting your car

Thats a very broud question. How ruff is your car (dents)? Is there a rust problem? How do you plan on stripping the car? Do you need to replace any panels? What color are you painting it? Are you painting the jams, engine bay and trunk area? How do you plan on sanding the car? Wet...
