OK got a weird problem with my 86 GN... driving around when you start off from a stop the motor seems to load up or something.... its like im towing a 10000lb trailer or something and then when it hits like 3000-3500 it clears up a bit... 02s during this time drop to like 016-024 etc.... I have fuel pressure and it doesnt drop during this time... mods are TA64 turbo, PTC 3200 L/U conv., 50lb MSD inj, ME chip for 50's 3" DP, have the dump open, I think thats most of it... Can it be a bad O2 sensor?? Also when this happens there is 0 boost... it happens driving normal... TurboBuRick if your out there you helped me before with problems on the car... I met you at your car wash i think last year... If your available at all to look at it please let me know also...

Thanks guys
Jeremy

jeremy if its a scanmaster you have toggle to AF and keep an eye on the numbers to see that they rise progressively with throttle input. around 5-8 at idle up to 255 at wot. if they dont its probably a bad maf. HTH

Alot of loading up problems on the bottom end is usually a real rich condition. Too much fuel then as you build RPM's it clears up. Lots of surging and bucking associated with this.

If you have a stock MAF still it could be that. I have had a few go bad on me and they you can barely touch the gas to get it going. If you know a local with a known good MAF toss it in.

Sounds like what i just had going on, under load at full throttle 02s would drop off 012-016 but the car just felt like it fell on it's face at 20lbs of boost checked it at the shop the next day found fuel psi low at idle couldn't get it to adjust to 43psi line off then watching the gauge it dropped off to 0 and car stalled primed the pump and only had like 27 psi fuel pressure so i put a pump and hot wire in it the other night removing the old pusher puller set up that was on the car issue solved drove it yesterday and it has never run better should have done this when i first got it

A exhaust leak will be a nightmare on a o2 sensor. If the o2 is seeing a lean condition its going to compensate by adding fuel even if the engine is running rich to begin with. The only "normal" time a o2 sensor will go that low should be during decel. Alot of sensors will mess up the fueling. What is your IAC number?

thanks alot guys! i switched the stock Maf with a 3" LT1 Maf with a translator plus... havent had a chance to take it for a ride yet tho... I suspected it could be the fuel pump and already ordered a new one... its on the way... As for IAC count i am not sure i will check it when i test drive it... I know the Drivers exhaust manifold is leaking some but it has for awhile now and i just havent had a chance to replace it... I have a welded one to install already... I figured it shouldnt have been that cuz its been leaking for awhile and this just started... Anyone know about the Max Effort chips? what values are still used? I know it programs alot of stuff and doesnt use sensor readings for some stuff... just not sure which readings on Scanmaster are affected by the chip

thanks again guys
Jeremy

OK took it for a short ride thru the subdivision just driving normal no boost... it does the exact same thing as with the other MAF... could it be the settings on the chip or something?? tune up? bad O2?? not sure what exactly to start with... IAC counts at idle are at 7... didnt get a WOT count since i was only in my subdivision... AF did rise but i didnt get to WOT... the count progressively fell tho at idle...

Hey Jeremy,

Looks to me like your starving for gas. Have you looked at the maf pipe? Make sure your connections are all intact and secure.

What is the BLM doing during this condition?

Chuck is right.

Ill check the BLM's... what do you need for them?? at idle? WOT?? the MAF pipe is a solid aluminum tube... which connections should i be lookin at? i know the MAF is all connected cuz i just put the new one on...

Get the blm reading while driving during the condition you describe.

Make sure the connection from the maf pipe to the turbo is secure and check your inter cooler couplings and vacuum lines.

checked connections and they seem ok... BL i think is the correct one one the SM and it is at 03 and it stays there the entire time the car is running... I have no idea what this means tho... any info is appreciated as usual!

thanks

ok just replaced the fuel pump with a brand new one... still same thing.... ill drive it more tomorrow and try to get some more numbers.... Does the ME chip use all these sensors or is it more like a closed loop program??

thanks
Jeremy

Disconnect a vac line and see if the o2 will read it, then spray a little carb cleaner in it and see if the o2's go up. Did you fix the exhaust leak yet?

I just remembered the other day I found the vac line to the char canister was disconnected.. I reconnected it and it seems it was about when this started.... can that or the check valve or the sensor on top of the canister cause this??

Do you know what exact Maxeffort chip you have? ME's don't use BLM's and some don't use a MAF.

Can you read any numbers on the chip?

Eric I think I got the newest version... I also had the screenless maf to go with it... can't remember for sure but I think I git them from you... it was about a year ago and you sent me just the chip to put in the carriage and the maf. ..

OK i switched the chip just to try to eliminate it and make it something simpler... put in a TT 5.6 race 100 octane chip in it.... didnt get on it... just cruised it around so the computer can learn it... it did run a little better... not as big of a bog.... but O2's do the same... heres some numbers after i drove it around for awhile... these are at idle

BL=142
CLT=193 degrees
ATS=108
IAC=00
MAL=00
O2's at idle in park.... 328-675 bouncing all over...
AF=04
L8=29-34
INT=130-139

i dont know what these mean... good or bad so hope you guys can help my dumb ass out!!

thanks
Jeremy
