will .030 pistons work in a block that is .035?

yes it will, and you will have to get oversized rings also to make up the .005 left

Order a set of file fit rings and you should be all set. Check the end gaps and file as needed.

You need to measure your actual piston to wall clearance. It has nothing to do with needing oversize rings to make the pistons work. You will need an oversize ring also but getting the correct piston to wall clearance is the issue.

It probably won't be possible to get the recommended piston-to-cylinder wall clearances. With 0.005 too much, you will lots of noise, lots of blow-by, burn oil, etc... Looking through the Buick "Power Source", the loosest engine I saw was an unblown drag engine, that made about 460 hp, out of 256 cubic inches. The clearance with Arias forged pistons was only 0.00092. If you add 0.005 to that-well, the clearance comes out to six times the desired number. Pretty loose.
