My trans goes from 1st to 4th by 10-15 mph! Where should I look to correct this problem?

Other than quick shifting everything seems to work okay. I can manually downshift to 2nd and it will shift to and stay in 2nd long as speed doesn't drop below whatever speed it normally would shift into 1st.

IF (can't really tell) it goes into lockup it won't unlock by applying the brake pedal. It downshifts itself just fine.

It acts as if converter has been locked at the ALDL.

as usual ALL help is greatly appreciated,

Jerry

sounds like the torque converter clutch selonoid. our trannys are know for this problem. just drop the pan and pull the selonoid and replace.

Could it in any way be caused by an improper TV adjustments?? I had to replace the stock cable with one that does NOT have the half moon tab, instead it has a "snap"?? lock. I pushed the cable all the way back but it will not automatically adjust like the stocker does when the throttle is opened 100%. I opened the throttle plate to 100% then adjusted TV cable to max at throttle wot. Okay??

TIA

I'd get a OE style cable. They can be found. I bet at part throttle you don't have enough TV cable. That will burn it up quick.

A completely unhooked TV cable will cause the symptoms you describe. I would examine the TV cable first... the OEM style is what I would recommend.....

End to problem

Don't know exactly what it was that fixed the shift problem but, what I did was-replace the TCC solenoid, RE-installed the old TV cable, and "sloshed" the valve body around in a pan of gasoline, just in case so debris had gotten trapped, then used a lot of compressed air on it-re-installed, adjusted TV, and she's shiftin' okay......so far!

Thanks for all your help, especially to Bruce Toole and Brian H.
