100 Octane

I have a stock 87 GN with a stock chip, are there any benefits to running a few gallons of 100 octane in the tank or would I just be wasting my money. I guess my other question is could I run 100 octane in a completely stock GN?

It would help decrease knock when you get into boost but if you are not getting into boost, I don't think it would make that much difference.
I would get an upgraded chip as I have read that the stock chips have to much timing for todays gas.

Stock chips have 25 degrees at WOT. Thats like a racegas chip. Get a new chip from someone like turbotweak.com and go from there. Yes 100 octane would benefit you highly.

Running any amount of a higher octane fuel will only be better if you are running into detonation now. If you don't have a scanmaster here, you will probably run into replacing a headgasket very shortly if anything goes wrond with your system, (ie wastegate solenoid going south). As others have said, turbotweak chip, scanmaster for tuning & diagnosing, adjustable wastegate will help.

Running a higher octane fuel will allow you to avoid detonation and/or run more boost and/or higher timing.
I run 100 octane V.P. unleaded at about 22 lbs of boost, and I think that my chip has about 22° in it max. Haven't seen any detonation on the SM since I went to 100 octane. oving it. Nest is Razor's alcohol kit.

100 octane near me is $6.10 a gallon. I can run my 98 octane Extender chip and it works great with 100 octane. However, I also have Razor's PAC which allows me to run the higher boost and timing of the 98 chip on pump gas. It's a great alternative for the race gas.
