109 Block

I got my spare 109 block back from the machine shop, .030 over. It looked so good that I am going to use it in my Hot Air. Are there any considerations that I need to know about this block before I rebuild it into a Hot Air engine?

use 109 headbolts.......... remember to plug the oil return hole.

Use 109 (86-87) head gaskets, 84-85 blocks have a taller deck and using the head gaskets with the later blocks will cause too much compression.

So, looking at the Poston's web site, would it be better for me to use the 86/87 Master Rebuild kit so the 86/87 head gaskets will be in there, or will there be other mechanical differences?

You would be safe in using the 86-87 kit. Everything is the same between th IC and HA cars except the head gaskets.

umm..no..

im using steel shims (and many do) on a 109 block. no problems.

'too much' is relative.
