Hey Hot Air Guys,
I have $300-$400 to spend on my GN. Below are all of the things that I already have on it. I am about to take it to the track of the first time to see what it will run. Out of the things on my wish list below whet do you think I should buy which would give me the most hp without damaging my engine? By the way I already got a Welbro 307 fuel pump I just have to run my gas low. I had a full tank for winter storage.
Thanks for any help
David

You would probably benefit most from drag radials, open exhaust before the cat, paperclip to lock the TC, racegas, and a chip to take advantage of the racegas. With the above you should be able to easily knock a second off of your 1/4 time.

if you've got $400 to spend and want power you'll feel every day i'd go with the hooker exhaust/dump and 87 ecm/aftermarket chip.

Thanks guys
I have been thinking that the exhaust would be a good next step. I have been thinking of going with a Hooker exhaust system and a dump/test pipe instead of the catalytic converter. Does this sound good? I’m not sure if the hooker will bolt up to an 84 don’t you have to have an adapter? Also what kind of chip should I go with??
Thanks
David

OK...OK, Ive seent his a million times and I dont understand. what does a paper clip do to the TC and where do you put it to do what ever it is to the TC that it does? I have a 2800 stall TC from ebay, and I am going for a 3000 stall in a few months time, but what the heck does the paperclip do? Thanks!

John

Hope this helps.
TCC Lockup
Locking up the torque converter manually has been shown to improve ET's by up to .2 seconds and add 2 MPH to your trap speed in the quarter mile. By activating this switch at the starting line, fluid will travel to the converter forcing lockup once the transmission hits second gear (there is no fluid path to converter while in 1st or reverse.) Yes, this is hard on the converter and transmission, but so is racing in general.
The switch will ground the TCC circuit regardless of ECM request. To install, run a wire from a ground location to one end of the switch and run another wire from the other end of the switch to terminal F on the ALDL connector under the radio pod. (As you are looking at the ALDL connector, terminal F is at the top left.) The easiest way to do the connection is to splice into the wire behind the connector.

Remember to flip the switch to the Off position once you are through the quarter mile to avoid unnecessary lockup, wear-and-tear, etc. With the switch in the Off position, the converter will only lockup when the ECM commands it to lockup. Note that this retains the Brake pedal override.

When my car was nearly bone stock I picked up 4mph from locking the convertor. It's not going to hurt a thing on a stock or even a decently modded one.

the hooker exhaust will set ya back around $250 from www.jegs.com
or
www.summitracing.com
its a direct bolt up and i think it comes with the test pipe

you could get an 86/87 ecm used for like $35-40
you can get the Mat sensor for like $30

you could pick up a chip from $35 to 75 dollars
