would a 160 thermos stat help with performance? Or would it just be better to use the stock one?
 
most aftermarket chips call for a 160* t-stat for things like torque converter l/u and going to closed loop.....will it help performance? not all by itself....most factory t-stats are 190* + so your car may run cooler and that can be a good thing
 
I don't think there is a downside to running a 160 thermostat, so why not? They aren't expensive.

BTW, be prepared to destroy your water neck when you try to remove the old one (especially if it is original), and have a new o-ring handy too. I got a new one from NAPA, but I had to ask for a neck for an 89 TTA, it was in stock and much better quality than the original. I just had to shim the "fork" that holds it with a washer.
