According the this website the 81 Indy Pacecar was a Buick Regal. The 81 Trans Am Pacecar was the Daytona 500 version I think.

Just so everyone knows and understands, the 1980 Turbo Trans Am was the Indy pace car in 1980 and the 1981 Turbo Trans Am was the Daytona Pace Car. In 1981, the Regal was the Indy Pace Car in 1981. Hope this helps.
