What are the diferences? Is the 83 similar to the desireable 87?

The stator support, and sun shell would be the hardened pieces in the latter. There is a bering in one of the planetaries instead of a plastic bushing in the later. And the later one has the desirable vb/governor pieces. The older can be upgraded to the better stuff. Just sometimes easier to start with better than to have to piece it together.
