No smoke so far as I know, didn't see any signs of scorching from the alt either but I'll probably take a closer look this evening once it cools down outside. Check the fusible links at the starter first, and have the alt bench tested, it's possible the alt fried one of the links or a bad link smoked the alternator, but who knows?

I know we all have a preference, but the grey bench seat column shift is what I want in my next TR. All of my cars have the bucket seats and I am sick of it.. I hope you reconsider the conversion, bench seats rule!

Nice looking car. I actually dig the bench and the column shift....makes for more room for passengers and no one suspects anything.

Well, since I am not going to be actual drag racing at an actual track very often for the next couple of years....I am going to keep the bench. Once I have a safe place to put the bench in a few years (I'm active duty Navy, so hopefully after my next transfer) I may switch, but not so it isn't reversable.

Future,

Congrats on your car, I looked at that car and the volt light was on then.

Does it have a posi unit under it? The code was not there and I did not test drive.

I could not get past the interior layout and the column shift of that WH1, but I would leave it alone also.

The car has too many things missing/modded for me. I like stock.
The drivers side seat bottom needs to be recovered and the tach being stuck kind of bothered me also.

So I did buy a GN over this past weekend, had one new in '86. I put it on my lumber truck and hauled it from CT to DE. Guess what, my alternator was not working - so had I driven it, I would have been on battery power for about 20 miles(Dennis could predict this to the 1/10th mile) if no other electrical load was present.

Ahhhhh, these cars are like chainsaws and snowmobiles - let you down when you really need 'em.:frown:

I have the label from that car on file. Let me know if you need it.

Bench seat, column shift is the best... I love mine in the Gold T-Type. No one suspects that car to be the beast it is, and I do the hurt in comfort.

The volt light didn't come on during the 4 hours I looked it over. I'm not upset though, the alt looks stock so really needed to be replaced anyways. Gonna look at getting a new water pump as well. At least I made it home from Delaware!

No it doesn't have posi, something for me to do later. I like that it had some of the more expensive mods done as well.

Since the Tachs on these things aren't accurate anyways...it being stuck doesn't bother me. Though I will fix it eventually, just not a priority.

Glad you didn't drive it home with a bad alt! Pretty easy fix though. I'm getting ready to do the spring cleaning from GNTTYPE.
