My 200R4 works great except when under full acceleration it flair shifts between 2-3rd.

What could possibly be the cause of this, and how can it be fixed?

Thanks!

Hook up a pressure gauge and see what happens to line pressure as you do the 2-3 shift. If you are loosing pressure you have cavitation going on (most common cause). Fixes range from adding an extra quart of fluid (a bandaid fix) all the way up to adding a deeper pan with a bottom feed pick up to prevent the problem while maintaining proper fluid level in the trans itself.

2-3rd flair

Thanks for you reply. I've heard of using a 700r4 filter with a deeper pan. Is something you would suggest using? Would you recommend a shift kit? I like the way it shifts now and want to be careful not to make it shift too hard as I did with one a couple years ago.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND I THOUGHT IT WAS MY IMAGINATION THAT IT GOT BETTER WHEN I OVERFILLED THE TRANS.
DOES THIS MEAN THERE IS AN INTERNAL PROBLEM? I FIGURED THE CLUTCHES WERE TOAST.BUT THE FLUID IS STILL CHERRY RED AND 1-2 IS BEAUTIFUL.

Flare Shift

My father's 11.7 second GN had this 2-3 flare shift problem last week at the GS Nationals. He added 1/2 a quart of fluid and it shifted perfectly for the rest of the week (at least 10 quarter mile runs after adding fluid, all with perfect shifts).

whats a flair shift?my gn will shift fine into 2nd then feels like it backs off and hits 2nd again kinda hard, does it about once a day
