I have just had some mods completed ( TA60, 009s, ALKY) running about 20 on the boost and when I have the car in Drive (overdrive ) it does not want to shift from 2 to 3rd. When I have it in Drive it seems to be much better but still hesitates some. Stock tranny and worked fine before the lastest mods. My question is this all do to the horsepower increase and will a shift kit take care of this problem

Going through the same thing right now! I'm rebuilding it so I won't have any more problems in the future so I am spending the bucks on all the good stuff the first time. The shift kit may be just a bandaid. It might hold for now, but will probably let go later on.

Wait a minute....

If anyone got the latest GS-EXTRA, there's a great article in there about a commonly overlooked part. I too have the 2-3 weakness, plus no matter where the TV cable is nothing changes. The throttle valve spring is usually overlooked, or the incorrect spring is replaced. Before I go tearing into my tranny, I am going to go on the advice of our friends over at the GSCA and replace the spring.

hope this helps someone!

The trannies in these cars were marginal at best for factory performance levels. You've added a healthy turbo and injectors. I'm guessing with the alky you are running at least 20 lbs of boost which probably added around 75 to 100 horses or so. So yeah, it is fairly common for the tranny to let go.

Thanks for the info. The tranny shifts fine and firm under regular driving conditions. Its just at WOT that it wants to flutter.

third clutches are a problem in this unit and even with a tried and true shift recalibrater like ours you still have a 90 percent chance of having bum clutches.the only thing imo that keeps the direct clutches alive is dual feed in a high hp application ie over 350 hp.anyone wanting to know how to do it can give a call .the info is free. see url below
