1- I just got a new cam, (Erson turbo grind 1). The lobes on the cam are not polished, is this normal? They are not a raw cast and are smooth. They just are not a mirror finish like I have seen on most cams. I have never seen one like this before.

2- Is it a no no to put a new cam in a motor that has 107k on it without new cam bearings?

Thanks guys.

That is normal for a flat tappet cam.....A roller is polished looking since they are ussually billet machinings.....

Yes you can put a cam in a higher milage motor with out changing cam bearings.....but they should look good.......no copper showing, no bad scaring etc.......pretty normal for them to look "good".

The biggest worry is spring pressure on that style of cam......I would run very light springs on it for awhile......1 to 2k miles then change valve springs to the "correct" ones......The stock ones should work well for the first 1 to 2k miles, I would pull a couple and measure the installed height then measure the stock spring pressure at that hieght.....and at full valve lift. Probably about 70lbs on the seat......and it probably calls for about 100.....I would change to 90- 100 lb (seat) springs after some easy miles.....
