My 84 GN has the matching # engine and has the 12 or 14 bolt oil pan (not 20)... Does this signify it is an early model? or does it really mean nothing at all?

I think the 20 bolt came out in 85, mine has the 20 bolt but it is not a 109 block. Dont know if it is any better or not than the 12-14 bolt.

I would not worry about the 12/14 bolt oil pan. You have matching numbers. The twenty bolt oil pan came out in mid production in 1985. I have a 20 bolt oil pan and it is a 249 block. Research GNTTYPE.ORG and you can see all the block numbers by year. Brad

As stated by Brad.

20 bolt blocks are pretty easy to find, a matching block is impossible to find.

Some may argue that the 14 bolt pan is inferior to the 20 bolt "109". Look at the thread in my sig to establish your baseline on the issue.
