Hello all, Im a follower but first time post to turbo buick. Ive rebuilt my own 200 4r with CK's book and parts. Its installed in my 1970 Olds cutlass S with 455. Ive done plenty of reading on adjusting the tv cable and I dont have any questions there. My question is about the tv valve itself. A local shop told me the tv valve must be completely depressed and flush with the bushing. He also said it must be fully extended at the idle or released position. Are these accurate? If I set the tv cable to idle I cant get the tv valve to flush with the bushing. If I set the valve to max then the valve isnt fully released. It would be preloaded. He also said to get rid of cable I have. Im using the cable Ck sent. Its not the clickable stock type. Once I can get this close I can button it up, add fluid, and call CK to adjust it and road test. Also, when my helper pulls the tv cable all the way out the tv valve in not flush with the bushing. I can push the linkage a little but its not felt in the cable, its all in the lever but the valve is still sticking out. Ill get some pics up if needed, Thanks for any and all help.

some preload is ok.if there is any need to make changes to the plunger spring you wont know till you road test it.

If you are using a Holley carb you will need the optional throttle lever to use with GM TV cables, in other words your TV cable geometry is off, good luck.

Kevin.

here are some pics i took with the only time to work on the car today. Pic one shows the carb(demon) csr bracket ect.
These pics were taken without the tv cable hooked to the carb and the wife pulling the cable for WOT

Pic #2 two shows the lever and tv valve at full idle(rest)

Pic#3 shows the cable pulled tight and the valve in its most WOT position with the cable.

Pic #4 is after I push where the z bend from the rod that the cable hooks to. It just the play in the linkage. This is not felt or does not move the tv cable in any way.

Here is pic #4

I dont believe this is an issue with the carb geometry due to it not even hooked up for these pics. Im sure when I assembled the section I remembered the valve pressing all the way in. Tomorrow I plan to disconnect the cable or move the actuating lever by hand and see if the valve goes in the rest of its travel.

If this is the normal position for the tv valve to be at WOT then its good and ill button up the trans and get her running for its road test. Thanks Chris for the reply and ill get with you soon. Joe

I figured out what was happening. I went to freinds house and we checked out his 200 4r core for comparison. The lever rods were the same length, but his gm cable had .5in more travel than mine. so after some measurements we found the flashing where the cable was crimped to the end link. After 2min with a grinder it test perfectly. The pics show the flashing, then a wot test and at idle it is pre loaded some. A geometry correction lever may be needed for full release and WOT. I can button it up and get ready for some driving.
