200 R4 From 87 n/a T????

Is a 200 r4 from an 87 T package Regal w/ the V8 the same trans as the GN's? I know that the rearend is 2.80 or 2.90 something?

the trans is mechanically the same but the hydraulic systems calibration is not .this means the car will go forward and reverse and change gears but will not be synchronized with the engine .if the trans is calibrated for a 2.80 rear and you install it in a gn with a 3.42 it will open the governor too quicklyand make the gear changes too early.then if you adjust the tv cable to make it shift later youll get a kickdown every time you apply throttle at a cruise speed .the codes for the gn are bq and br and for an ss monte ho they are cq and cz.although the ss has a 3.73 ratio you can use it in a gn ,it works just as good .also the gn trans has reinforcement/thrust straps in the front and rear planetary carriers and a metal shell washer but these obviosly dont effect shift timing.parts interchange must be gn valve body ,governor , servo and as or x spacer plate the as works better due to revised 3/2 acc. circuitry.www.ckperformance.com
