200R4 converter in a 700R4?

Are the converters interchangeable between them?
Namely, could a restalled D5 be put into a lockup 700R4?
Buddy of mine is putting a 700 in his Chevelle but having a hard time stomaching the $$ they're wanting for a 2800 stall unit, and the loosened up D5's are right in his price range and around the right stall speed...

I am sure the expert's will chime in, but I think there are two different splines #'s available on the 700's. If it is a 27 spline like the 200 I am pretty sure it will work. I think the later 700's had more splines.

You are correct early 700r4 82- thru about 84-85 had the small input shaft [27 spline ] like the 200c and the 2004r
