im going to be getting sometires and was wondering if 275 50 15 inch tires would fit without rubbing on a 15 by 8 inch wheel with 3 and 3 quater backspacing. i did a search on this but really only saw this question asked on 7 inch wheels. oh yea, the tires im gonna get are the bfgoodrich drag radials. thanks :D

I have them on my stock T-type wheels and must run a spacer. Hope that helps.

rubbing

I run that size Nitto on the stock wheels.I had a small rubbing problem on a hard turn.I installed aluminum brake drums and no more rubbing.Bruce

275/50's should fit that size wheel fine. You may experience some frame rub in very hard cornering, but 99% of the time it won't rub at all.

But, given your combo, your car would be faster with a taller 275/60 tire. Either a BFG or the new Nitto drag radial. Both should rub less than the BFG275/50s'.

Rush Fan, If you have your heart set on 50's, then the b/s & wheel size you have is great. As mentioned, you may experience tire rub on the frame. You can go with spacers if you like, but I found that aluminum drums extended the wheel out enough to eliminate the rub.

If my 295s fit using a 3½" backspace and still have almost 3/4" of room left, 275s should fit no problemo. ;)

thanks guys, that was a big help. know i gotta figure out if i want 50 s or 60 s thanks jeff:D

o.k., i was just gonna order tires from discount tire and the 50 s are on back order. they have them in nittos though. now, what is the better tire for hooking. also, im a little confused on the diffrence between 50s and 60s. i thought a 60 being taller would slow me down, am i wrong. thanks a bunch jeff:D

(215 60 15) 215/25mm = 8.6" + .60 + .60 = 10.3 + 15 = 25.3"

(275 50 15) 275/25mm = 11" + .50 + .50 = 11" + 15 = 26"

(275 60 15) 275/25mm = 11" + .60 + .60 = 13.2 + 15 = 28.2"

if you think your car will run faster than 110 mph in the 1/4, nitto 275/50's WILL slow you down.

The fastest my car ever ran with BFG 275/50's was 113.96 mph. Switching to 275/60's and virtually no other changes it has run 118.31 mph. The stock motor hates to rev over 5100 rpm. Don't make it.

275/60's hook better than 275/50's for three reasons:

1. the contact patch is longer and more forgiving.
2. the sidewall provides more flex reducing shock to the tread.
3. the added height reduces the mechanical advantage at the begining of each gear, so there is less force applied to the ground.

(Remember that hooking is much more important than gear ratio when talking about drag radials. Sure a 26" tire lowers the effective gear ratio vs. a 28" tire, but a lot of good that does if the car goes up in smoke at the line)

This combined with the 275/60's INCREASED mechanical advantage at the top of each gear (vs. 275/50's) makes them quicker than 50's on a stock motored T-R running low 12's and quicker.

yea, me two. thanks ungn, that was a good explanation and i will be ordering my tires as soon as im done typing this.:D thanks again guys

my 275 60's seem to hook EVERY BIT as good as my 275 50's and my 60's are just regular BFG radials compared to the 50's which are one year old drag radials!

At my trap speed (116) on the 50's the engine is a BUZZIN'

well, i just got my new 275 60 15 nittos mounted on my car yesterdayalong with my new inspection sticker. well the tires fit great and look great, but can you believe 5 minutes after picking my car up my freakin alternator took a dump.always somthing. anyway, they fit perfect and dont rub at all. know i just gotta replace the alternator so i can test the tires out. also , my car passed emmissions with flying colors. thanks again for the help guys.
