I have a 3" Keith Mease DP on my '85 GN, and the bottom keeps coming loose (making it very loud). Has anyone else had this problem? Is welding the solution?

A stainless steel band clamp such as sold in many tractor trailer shops. Keith usually has them in stock. Didnt he give you one with your pipe? If not, you can get one from Summit, Jeg's or even Napa stores. They are reusable and wont crush the pipe like a regular exhaust clamp. Just make sure you have it cranked to give sufficient clamping.

I have the same problem with my 0-60 3" pipe, I have a band clamp on it but it wont clamp enough to conform to the smaller section of pipe. any other suggestions?

Mine was fine for the first couple of weeks, but then came loose. After it was re-clamped, it came loose again 3 days later. Has anyone welded theirs? Is this a good or bad idea?

if you weld it you may not be able to get it off the car someday without cutting the pipe.i would add a 3"id to 3" od short extension adapter to give you alittle more surface contact and then use the band clamps( which if you need i have some extra ones) and everything should be alright.

weld it

take the car to a muffler shop with a new SS band clamp, have them put two or three small tack welds on the pipe seam WHERE THEY CAN BE REACHED if you have to ever remove the pipe.

problem was solved about two months ago with a 3" id to 3" od adapter pipe-hasnt come apart again .

I had my KB downpipe come apart when I had open exhaust and ended up running over the lower half lol. A couple tack welds are easy to remove when the time comes. Coming from my own personal experience you will fight this problem forever without welds. The LT 3" pipe is nice in that it bolts together.

check the post dates- the problem has been fixed without welding-just an adapter and a clamp!
