I looked at the rwd head gasket and the 3800 series II (fwd) head gasket and they look the same. The big question is whether the stage II and the series II intake gaskets are the same. Can any one answer this one?

Stage II engines and Series II 3800's have nothing in common. Stage II engines were hand built for various racing applications with parts available from Buick Motorsports. Series II 3800's were the last in the evolution of Buick V6 production engines.

i think the big question is whether the series 2 heads will fit on an old rwd block and work with the rwd intakes and what not.
probably not- if they did work, i think there would be a ton on TR's out there with the later aluminum heads on them..

The only thing the old production and new production engines share are the rod bearings. Nothing else is interchangeable. None came with aluminum heads either. The RWD 3800 series II could be made to work in a g-body but it would be a lot of work. Probably worth it for a sub 10 second car though if you want a reliable strong bottom end.

Series III was the last version of the 90 degree OHV v-6.

Guys have run 8's on a stock bottom end (well forged pistons) in a 3800 V6 F-body. Problem isn't the bottom end, its the transmission in the FWD cars and no one takes the time to build a V6 since an Gen III/IV V8 is such an easy swap. What are you wanting to do with this?

Series II/III 3800's have an on center block, balance shaft, reduced deck height, shorter rods, 60º Metric FWD bellhousing, and all but some of the early cable throttle F-body and the lower supercharger intakes; plastic intakes. They do have crossbolted mains, gerotor oil pumps, front and rear motor seal plates, Series III's have forged powdered metal rods, roller cams, and the heads do flow better. Aftermarket stuff includes Aluminum heads soon for production from ZZP, roller rockers in up to 1.9:1 ratio, off the shelf forged pistons, and a wealth of electronic tuning software for the ECM.

Ok. Here's the actual question. The original 78 and up rwd blocks have basically the same FWD head gasket as the series II 3800 ON CENTER FWD blocks. Has any one else tried to see if this and the stage II HEADS have the same designed intake/exhaust ports/gaskets with an off center block?
