So I've been doing a ton of reading for about 3 days on sweet stuff to do to a HA car. But let me set the record straight... I am open to keeping it stock or going 86/87. Basically I love Buick turbos intercooled or not. What I want for mine is reliability and the ability to burn rubber.

I have a stock 84 grand national that I want to make fast. Not 10 or 11 or so fast. But fast enough to beat my buddies 65 mustang he he he. My turbo is being upgraded to a TA-49. What do I need to match this setup?

Again I'm open to everything. Remember this is like a game where you have free money and you can throw it "wisely". Teach me the ways please!

I will try.
First, read the recipes through the link in the sticky.

With your set-up, I would recomend in order;
1. In order;
2. Good fuel pump with HW kit
3. A good recording scan tool – PL
4. Read some more and tune the car.
5. Make sure the car is running good, without ANY KR on 93 to 12-14 PSI boost. Some are luckier than others. If not, start looking before you do anything else.
6. Good and properly sized intake filter.
7. Clean injectors
8. WB set-up
9. TT Chip with 87 ECM – Pick SD so you can eliminate the MAF upgrade cost.
10. E-85 – If you can find that in your area. If not, Alky injection
11. Comp 980 springs, with a good oil additive (ZDDP)
12. PS header
13. DP – Integral is preferred but not required for a 11.xx HA car.
14. Good torque converter / Transmission
15. Good tires
16. If you want more; Ported heads / Manifold

This should get you “started”.

What is number 13. Sorry for the stupidity :-). What about camshafts? Any good and recommended camshafts for low end torque. "say I did all on the list roughly how much horse would it give me?"

DP = Down Pipe
At 25 PSI you should see around 450 at the crank.
Results may vary. :tongue:

These cars do well without a cam upgrade.
If you change the cam, go roller and my recomendation is a 206/210 roller.
This however will blow the $3K budget.

With some good oil, the 204/214 is easily a low 11 second cam in these cars.
This is a cheaper option. and will work well, if you run good oil and break it in right.

Low end torque is a function of boost on these cars, combined with a good converter/trans to transmit the power. The stock configuration probably puts out more torque than the mustain, in its stock form. (Not 100% sure)

More importantly;
How fast do you need to go and what fuel will you run?
:wink:

12's and 13's are fine by me. I can run 93. I'm just worried about driveablitly. It's going to be my daily summer driver if that makes any sense haha. I don't need crazy yet. any special recommended vendors to get these parts?

Oh and the forum lingo is new to me. But dp. I should have known that one. Haha

What fuel?

Premium pump with an additive.

Lets say you have a safe tune on 93, 12 PSI. you can expect around 14.9 @ 89. (Stock performance levels)
Now, say you add an alky injection system, turn the boost up to 20. Now you can expect 13.1@ 102. That is about 100 HP increase.
Crank it up to 23 psi, you should expect 12.76@104. You need to do this with ZERO KR!

If you ported the heads/intake and added a cam you can expect 111 mph.

Driveability will not be an issue. It will idle like a stock car and pull 16 inHG.
Oh . . . . And you will still get about 23-25 mpg highway. :cool:

Nice! That's what I needed to know. Where can I find that STICKY thread about builds? For HA
