Depends on the size of the motor. On a 231 a .68 a/r would be the only thing that would work, with a 3600+ converter. Forget about a .81 or .85, unless its an all out race car with a 4500 converter on the brake. You would be best to use a 70 gtq and the .68 housing and a 3300 converter would get you by. I only suggest ptc converters also.

For a race set up the .81 would work on the 274, with "the correct converter".
