How is a 400 on the street. I dont like haveing to worry about broken parts, so Im thinkin about a 400. Probly a 3500 stall.
How is the rpm's at 60 w/ 28's ?? I tend to do some cruisein when im out, but can sacrifise the long 80 mph hi way runs to 60 if i need to.
Any other comments ??
Thanks

You won't get many people to tell you they are great on the street. You loose overdrive, rpms are gonna go higher, gas mileage will stink(if you like to mash the go peddle:D ). I am about to install a TH-350 in mine for the same reason, so I won't have to worry about breaking it, for now anyway. It really depends on what you want to do.

I know all of the above but not to what extent. Would cruise rpm be the same as if I drove in D instead of OD ?? Also, since there are different gear set available, has anyone got a lead on the "right" one ?? Is a deeper 1st gear gonna be enuff while still useing a 3:42 or should I switch to a 3:73 with 28" tires ??
So many questions ...

400 s are great on the street proving that you have a 3.42 to 3.90 ratio rear .we make a 400 w /the same ratios as the 2004r w/out the o/d . as far as trans gear ratio selection ,no matter what you pick third will always be 1 to 1.just like hi in d w/a2004r .however by using the different ratios to your adfvantage you can launch harder or soften it to gain traction .we also builld em w/a variable pitch convertor that gives 200 stall wen not in use and 2800 w/the flip of a switch.higher stalls are available and you can switch back and forth between the 2 .w/a trans brake and the rite combo the gn s on the bumper theres alot of info on the site www.ckperformance.com .as far as i know there are onlt 3 people making these ratios and we are 1 of the 3 .we have an aod with an ultrabell that fits the buick motor and can handle much more hp than the 2004r ,./we have put it behind over 860 hp w/out fail

Nice website Chris.
But I dont see any prices for your 400's.
If i remember correctly, i was cruisein 65 or so @ 2200 rpm in od and since its winter w/ that white **** on the ground, im not goin out and testing the 87 in drive. Just hopein someone would chime in the experiances, likes, dislikes of runnin a 400. Also, I cant find the website in the gnttype as to the gear ratio's between a 200 vrs the available for a 400. I want to run 28" tall tires.
As far as mileage, kind of a bitch, but not a problem. I'm goin w/ a 63 or t45e so i'll want 3500 stall or so, certainly not 2800.

cars launch harder w/400s because the inertia verses a200 is 4 times the amount . the cruise speed will be 33 percent higher than the 200 plus add another 200 rpms for the absence of the lockup .we do build em with lock up but they are big money .the 400 prices will be there soon thanks 4 letting me know as they are still constructing the site

2004r ratios are 2.76,1.57 ,1.0,and .67 .stock 400 is 2.48 ,1.48 ,1.0 but we put the 3254l planet in the 400 rear carrier and it becomes the same as the 2004r .the 3254l is the same as a 2004r but the helix is backwards making it compatible w/the 400 reverse planetary helix.

aahh.. this may be real obvious.. a 200 is 1:1 in D (3rd) same as a 400 in D.. so just go drive the car in D and you should be pretty close!!
