I remember once seeing a post in here about a 4000 stall lock up converter. Can't find it for the life on me though....

What could I expect to gain by going from my present 4,000 non-lockup, to a lockup 4000 unit. The car as it sits has gone 10.70@130mph, with a T64-1 big shaft, @ 34#'s of boost. It is currently my daily driver, and sees roughly 40 miles a day, mostly highway.

In discussing the setup wiht a few people, most seem to feel that there is another 1-3 mph to be found by going to a lockup. What do you folks think about this? What issues would arise by going to a 4000 stall? Would cooling the tranny become significantly harder? How about gains vs downsides? Would there be a noticable gass milage difference?

Tell me everything i need to know to properly consider this change. :) Thanks!

Hi Matt. Most people say you loose abot 3% to 5% when not in lock up. So that would be a plus on top end for sure. As far as heat goes, with the converter not slipping when in lock up mode, you would actually have less heat being generated. We have a lot of cars running in your time neighborhood with lock ups and they also drive the street. If you choose the right converter, it won't be a problem I would think. Mark :D
